TÜV SÜD LAUNCHES ATEX CERTIFICATION SERVICE FOR UK AND EU MARKET ACCESS

TÜV SÜD has launched its ATEX Directive certification service for both CE marking and UKCA mark compliance.

From 1 January 2021 new products being released onto the UK market have had to apply the UKCA mark. CE marking compliance certificates, previously issued for the EU’s ATEX Directive for products already available on the market, will cease to be valid after 1 January 2023 and must instead apply the new UKCA mark.

As TÜV SÜD now holds dual accreditation as an ATEX Directive Notified Body and UKCA Approved Body, it can continue to support manufacturers in maintaining CE certification for EU markets, as well as gain UKCA approval.

The ATEX Directive covers all explosion-proof equipment and systems, including anything used within, or in conjunction with potentially explosive atmospheres. This includes safety, control and regulation devices, as well as protective components, equipment and systems.

Paul Taylor, Business Development Director for Industrial Services (UK) at TÜV SÜD, said: “Manufacturers of explosion-proof equipment and systems must conform to standards that apply to the market into which they are being sold. By maintaining our EU ATEX Directive Notified Body status and becoming a UKCA Approved Body, TÜV SÜD can help businesses to seamlessly comply will both requirements. We will support them in ensuring

DRIVETECH WHITEPAPER TO SUPPORT RISE OF THE GREY FLEET

Following the shift in the automotive landscape due to the pandemic, DriveTech has launched a new whitepaper to help businesses manage the risk of staff using personal vehicles for business purposes, commonly known as the ‘grey fleet’.

Over the past 18 months, the fleet industry has experienced an unprecedented change as the business world continues to adapt new ways of working. While the rise of the grey fleet was already underway, the pandemic has accelerated this shift, with recent data from the BVRLA showing that company fleets total around 1.8m vehicles compared to the estimated 10-14m for grey fleets. It’s therefore vital that fleet managers are armed with practical advice and knowledge to support them in making the safest decisions for their evolving fleet.

that it remains ‘business as usual’ as they can carry on supplying EU and UK markets.”

While EU Exit Statutory Instruments enable the UKCA Marking requirements to replace CE Marking, the UK’s standards will remain the same as EU harmonised standards, to maintain a single model. After 1 January 2021, end-users in the UK will already have started to see a UKCA mark appearing on compliant products.

Grey fleets can present a significant risk to UK businesses and organisations, simply because so many fail to take the basic steps required to protect this ‘grey’ area of the workforce. With the continued boom in the use of grey fleet vehicles, DriveTech is urging businesses to take the necessary precautions outlined in its latest whitepaper. Ensuring drivers have the necessary training will not only improve the driving and awareness of individuals but will also help them to develop basic vehicle safety assessment skills.

Charlie Norman, Managing Director at DriveTech, commented: “Our latest whitepaper is intended to provide you with some useful insight as your business prepares for the post-pandemic recovery. With conventional fleet sales down and the pandemic’s impact dramatically shifting the way in which many people work, now is the time to act and ensure grey fleets are not overlooked and businesses are http ://www.drivetech.co.uk/downloads/
