Hello and welcome to the June issue of Tomorrow’s Health and Safety.
The biggest industry event of the year is nearly upon us. In this issue we will be showcasing some of the leading suppliers within the sector who are exhibiting at the Safety and Health Exhibition (SHExpo) at ExCeL in London from 18-20 June.
A particular highlight from last year was keynote speaker Ruby Wax delivering a charismatic and comical presentation uncharacteristic of a typical trade show. She began with a not-so-PC bang: “Being stressed is fundamentally different from being mentally ill. I cannot say this enough. It’s literally as different as being pregnant, or not. One in four people have it. It’s a literal disease that you can see in your brain. Being stressed, is not. Both are equally as important, but both require totally different approaches.”
Wax continued: “Trying to deal with mental ill-health at crisis point is like walking into a gym for the first time and trying to lift 200lbs. It just can’t happen. You have to work for it, manage it, and keep on trying.” Speaking from personal experience, Ruby passionately (and hilariously) expressed the need for employers to be able to spot, support and encourage those suffering with mental ill-health. Here’s hoping for similarly insightful and entertaining seminars this year.
We are taking this bumper issue, and the show guide contained within, to the ExCeL arena with us, so please do come and see us at our stand (SH1045); we’re a friendly bunch and keen to talk to as many people as possible.

Along with all our regular features, we take an in depth look at Lone Worker Protection with Where Workplace Works offering five tips on improving safety for employees when they are working at home. We also caught up with Everbridge who have devised a nine-point approach to dealing with critical events for the Workplace Emergency feature.
Until the next issue, I wish you all the very best. Enjoy the read and don’t forget to come and visit us on our stand.
