WHAT'S NEW? BACKING THE BOSSES Skills for Care outlines the dedicated support it offers to registered managers.
At the heart of every outstanding care service is a registered manager. They play a vital role in creating a person-centred culture that ensures safe, high-quality care and support.
We know how challenging the role can be, which is why Skills for Care provides dedicated support for registered managers and frontline managers. Our resources are designed to help managers: • Build knowledge and confidence in their leadership role. • Stay up to date with sector changes and best practice. • Develop skills to lead teams effectively and deliver excellent care.
• Connect and share ideas with like-minded peers through networks and forums
By supporting registered managers, we help strengthen services, empower teams, and improve outcomes for the people who draw on care and support.
LOCAL NETWORKS
We know how important it is for registered managers to have the opportunity to come together and discuss the challenges they face.
Skills for Care supports over 130 local networks across England, providing safe and supportive spaces for managers to connect with peers, share challenges, and build stronger professional identities within their local areas.
In 2024–25, more than 450 network meetings took place nationwide, and new attendees are always welcome. Each meeting offers opportunities for peer support, knowledge sharing, and learning from guest speakers, including CQC inspection teams, commissioners, and Integrated Care System (ICS) representatives.
Joining a local network helps managers feel supported, stay informed about sector developments, and access a trusted space to ask questions. Most importantly, it provides practical ideas and learning that can be taken back to services to improve care.
Nesta Chambers, Registered Manager at Great Glens Facility, said: “The support has been very helpful in feeling less isolated. It has enabled me to ask questions and get support from peers in a non-judgmental environment. The network is a supportive environment and one where we can share ideas and information.”
