Editor’s Voice Hello and welcome to the April/May issue of Tomorrow’s Care!

Spring has sprung, the days are getting longer and lockdown restrictions are finally starting to ease. A lot has happened in the country since our last issue, particularly so for the care sector, and it’s been so heart-warming to see reunions as visitors were finally allowed in care homes. Of course, the situation is still heart-breaking for many with only two named indoor visitors allowed per resident, but it looks like the light at the end of this very long tunnel is starting to appear. Coupled with this, we’ve also seen many great stories of care homes across the country celebrating all staff and residents being fully vaccinated.

It’s undeniable that the events of the past year have placed considerable strain on the health and social care sectors and, in turn, have negatively impacted the mental health of many employees and residents/service users. In this issue, we have an extended focus on the topic of Mental Health, featuring advice and the shared experiences from other care providers and experts on the issue. Matt Farrah, from jobsite Socialcare.co.uk, asks whether elderly care homes need mental health nurses. We also hear about the approaches that maritime charity The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society has taken to ensure it provides the best possible mental health support for both residents and staff.

Elsewhere in the issue, we also have sections on Cleaning & Hygiene; Fitness & Exercise; and Emergency Evacuations. As usual, we also have all the last news and products updates, as well as our regular legal insight from Yorkshire law firm Keebles.

I hope you enjoy the read! ISSN 2055-477X
