Entering a new era of floorcare cleaning
Nilfisk discuss the future of floor cleaning with us.
The major challenges faced by the cleaning industry have been the same for a long time: labour shortages, cost pressure, consistency of cleaning, etc. COVID-19 made these challenges greater by raising the awareness of cleaning, the expectations and the consequences of failing to meet cleaning requirements.
The cleaning industry entered a new era of cleanliness and efficiency, and Nilfisk is part of this change, providing a total floorcare range of both robotic and automatic machines to help organisations meet cleaning goals and embrace new technologies. So, what’s next and what are the benefits?
Unparalleled cleaning efficiency
Nilfisk cleaning solutions bring the best of both worlds: power and precision. Experience a level of cleaning that combines the robust action of vacuum cleaners with the deep sanitising capabilities of traditional cleaning. Thanks to consistent brush pressure and exact water/detergent mix, even the toughest dirt doesn’t stand a chance.
Optimal resource utilisation
Our floor machine scrubbers are engineered to deliver the most while using the least. The smart chemical portioning feature ensures just the right amount of chemicals and detergent are used for optimal cleaning. It’s win-win — you save on water, energy and still get rid of stubborn dirt and stains effectively.
Noise-dree, disruption-free cleaning
We recognise the need for quiet cleaning solutions, especially during daytime operations. That’s why we’ve designed our cleaning solutions to function at minimal noise levels. Select models even feature our exclusive SilentTech technology, offering further noise reduction.
Compact and convenient
No space is too narrow for a Nilfisk scrubber dryer. The compact design of our range allows for easy manoeuvrability in tight areas, ensuring every corner is spotless.
Ease of use
Nilfisk floor scrubbers are designed with you in mind. Enjoy the comfort of ergonomic handles on our walk- behind floor scrubber models, or the spacious legroom and straightforward steering on our ride-on floor scrubbers. With Nilfisk OneTouch technology, getting your scrubber started is as simple as a single touch.
Robots and autonomy
Many challenges have driven companies to seek alternative solutions, chief among these is autonomous cleaning. The advantages of this approach are clear: worries about staff availability are instantly removed. Autonomous, programmable machines will always be available for action and will perform tasks consistently every time, using the optimum quantity of water and cleaning materials.
14 | TOMORROW'S CLEANING
One example is in the use of diamond cleaning pads. Manual cleaners often don’t use these correctly, so the pads wear out faster than normal, but machines will apply the correct pressure for the right duration to deliver the best possible clean.
Autonomous cleaning solutions require a new way of thinking about return on investment, compared with traditional machines. A robotic cleaning machine will last several years – far longer than manual equipment which may end up in landfill after a couple of years. While initial investment may be viewed as high, autonomous cleaning machines don’t require regular payment unlike staff wages, and can be used constantly, even 24 hours a day.
Manual machines often collect damage when in use through operator error and accidental contact with walls, racking, etc, but autonomous machines won’t suffer this as they’re programmed to avoid collisions, extending service life.
A further advantage of autonomous machines concerns their ability to gather data and inform operational decision- making and continuous improvement. For any autonomous machine, it’s often said that ‘its worst day is its first day’. However, as a sensor-enabled machine, the constant data collection will ensure it learns quickly.
As with any data gathering function, a responsible approach to data management and storage is critical to ensure compliance with local, national and international regulations. The ramifications of poor practice in this area can be significant and highly damaging. Data protection and agreements should therefore always form a key part of discussions when agreeing contracts for autonomous machines, with clear assurances about who will hold the data gathered, to ensure everyone’s peace of mind.
Once this is in place, the financial and operational benefits of autonomous cleaning can be fully enjoyed. Thinking non- manual when it comes to facility cleaning represents a clear way forward for companies of all sizes, and the technology is there to support it.
