The resilient way to better floor hygiene and cleaning

Rohit Sharma, Sales Manager at Bona, a family-owned company that provides sustainable, high-performance flooring solutions talks about the route to resilient floor renewal and better cleaning.

When selecting the best surfaces, resilient flooring is often the go-to choice in the quest for better hygiene and cleaning, particularly in public sectors such as education and health, which attract a high footfall or similarly in the commercial sectors such as retail and travel.

The often smooth, flush surfaces inherent to rubber, LVT, PVC, vinyl or linoleum floors can

create a surface that makes cleaning and maintenance incredibly straightforward.

Yet as these surfaces begin to age, it can be increasingly difficult to maintain effective cleaning and hygiene standards. Imperfections on the surface including scrapes, gaps or tears act as a barrier to effective cleaning and can very soon become the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

When it’s time to bid farewell to an existing surface, opting to renew the resilient floor, rather than ripping out and replacing with a brand-new surface, offers much greater financial, operational and environmentally sustainable benefits whilst also helping to conquer those cleaning challenges.

Before moving onto the cleaning aspect, let’s touch on those first three attributes. Resilient floor renewal is up to 50% cheaper and 50% quicker than installing new flooring. It also reduces carbon footprint by 90%, and generates energy savings as high as 95%; compelling statistics that collectively help to safeguard the earth’s finite resources.

Resilient renewal for healthy floors

Resilient floor renewal is a quick, easy process which creates a monolithic surface: completely sealed, seamless without joints, and with rounded corners and edges.

This creates a healthier floor surface, which can then be protected by a top-quality finish. The sealing power of Bona Pure, part of the Bona Resilient Solution, for instance creates a barrier against residual germs and

microorganisms, and it’s this ability to stop dirt sticking or penetrating the surface which makes it easier to protect floors against contamination.

It also meets TBRA 250 standards, meaning it delivers a high level of safety and health protection. Furthermore, it aids in daily cleaning and the effectiveness of cleaning products being used, which allows cleaning solutions to be more effective at keeping the surface free from dirt build-up and helps maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

Striking hygiene standards

Remember, even if a surface looks bright and clean to the eye, it may still be a hotbed of bacteria, and therefore it’s essential to implement tried and tested products. Test results have proved that it’s not just above the surface that Bona Pure hits the mark. Below the surface there are almost no signs of contamination thanks to the protective layer which seals each joint, whereas if left untreated, a high level of contamination is present.

The durable aspect of resilient floor renewal means that it is resistant to chemicals that could prove harmful to both the surface and the environment. Additionally, a renewed surface can last up to 15 years, and the process itself can be undertaken multiple times on the same surface; highlighting the solid durability of resilient floor renewal.

Bear in mind that within any indoor space, the floor is by far the largest surface area which collects a huge amount of dirt and grime, and keeping it clean is no mean feat. By embracing the idea of renewing a resilient floor surface, as opposed to replacing with new, it impacts the hygiene and cleaning of that surface.

Ultimately, resilient floor renewal provides long-term protection, can save facilities time and money and, importantly, helps extend the lifetime of the surface.
