educational message resonate more and more as the years go on.
Q4
If you could hire any one person to be part of your
team, who would it be and why? Australian Christian evangelist and motivational speaker, Nick Vujicic who was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of arms and legs. Because with a person like that around you professionally, there would never be a challenge that didn’t seem possible.
Q1
What was your first job? My first ever job was a paper
round from age of 10 until I turned 16. It didn’t allow much time for after- school activities, but it got me started early learning about collecting money and being consistent.
My first job in the industry was with Wagner Meters. I started in 2005 establishing the market for the Rapid RH concrete moisture testing system.
Q2
How did you get into the industry?
I have been in various construction segments since 1993. I started off in the roofing segment, building segment, and then I had the opportunity to move into the flooring and concrete market, beginning on the ground floor with a long-standing company. The challenge of starting from scratch with a product and market segment was just too much to pass up.
Q3
What has been your proudest moment?
Professionally, it’s not just one moment, it has been the entire process (since 2005) of educating various markets on proper concrete moisture testing and seeing that

What’s the best advice you could give to
someone new coming into the industry? Many people verbalise their desire to provide exceptional customer service and many believe they do. In reality, most miss the mark. Seek to truly understand your customer, above all else, and personal results will follow.
Q6
If you could be any character from film or
TV who would you be? I would not have a specific person, but a general character. I enjoy the NCIS type of TV shows where there
is a laboratory type of person who finds the scientific links to the cases they are working on. I always enjoy the challenge of ‘connecting the dots’.
Q7
What do you think are the positive and negative
aspects of the flooring trade? The positive is the people in the industry and constant evolution of markets and products.
A negative is the lack of incoming installation craftsmen. This isn’t just within the flooring trade; it is and will continue to affect most trades.
Q8 Q9
What do you think the future holds for
flooring design? Even more colour and texture.
If you weren’t in flooring, what career
would you choose? I would LOVE to be an F1 driver
Q10
Danni Cooke, Business Manager,
COBA Flooring asked: What one thing would you change about the industry and why? It’s not just this industry, but I do hear the phrase, “we have always done it that way” a lot. If I could change that philosophy, I would.
