EDITOR’S VOICE
This time last year, as I sat down to write this note, we were entering our sixth week of lockdown one. With a heavy heart, I reported on the steepest downturn of construction output since the recession of 2009 and trade organisations were petitioning the government for grants to help small construction firms to mitigate the predicted huge financial crisis ahead.
One year on and the outlook is much more positive. Not only are restrictions easing and we’re starting to enjoy our newfound freedoms but there’s also good news for the construction sector as contract awards return to above historical average levels. The main change in activity being in the hotel and leisure sector which, due to Covid restrictions, saw the steepest decline in awards during 2020.
It’s only fitting then, that in this issue we take a look at hotel and leisure installations with expert advice from F. Ball and a stunning design hotel in Germany which features surfaces from Neolith. Our Subfloor Preparation section is brimming with expert advice – from measuring moisture to working over contaminated substrates and sanding screeds, we’ve got it covered.
As well as all of this, you’ll also find a guidance on industrial flooring and the latest flooring news and updates.
