Recent decades have seen a surge in population growth, improved life expectancy and a shift towards greater urbanisation. This has impacted on our perceptions of quality of life and the role of the built environment. Consequently, sustainability and wellbeing factors are coming under greater scrutiny when public and private spaces are designed and constructed.
Unsurprisingly, manufacturers and contractors are gravitating around the idea of introducing solutions that can help address issues such as indoor air quality, healthy spaces, comfort, acoustics, space flexibility and modularity.
At Tarkett, we help create healthier spaces by making sustainable flooring that is good for people and good for the environment. Our commitment to health and wellbeing sits at the heart of our sustainability approach, ‘Doing Good. Together’. By listening to our customers’ needs and collaborating with our stakeholders, we design products that deliver optimal performance, promote healthy living and respect natural resources.
Our design philosophy is inspired by the circular economy. It offers our customers the opportunity to respect the environment and advance their sustainability goals. In particular, we provide flooring made with healthy materials that can be recovered, recycled and transformed into new products. Through ‘Doing Good. Together’, we focus on three key areas: Designing for Life, Closing the Loop and Driving Collaboration.
DESIGNING FOR LIFE People spend 90% of their time indoors, whether they’re working, learning or relaxing. We help create healthier, safer, more people-friendly indoor spaces by designing high quality, sustainable products made with healthy materials. Through our focus on Cradle to Cradle design, we make our products in a way that helps to preserve natural resources and mitigate climate change.
For example, by designing for life, we ensure that 98% of our materials are third party assessed for the impact on health and the environment. 97% are low in VOCs for improved indoor air quality, while 100% of our vinyl production is now phthalate-free.
CLOSING THE LOOP With our ReStart takeback programme, we help you to manage your customer’s flooring waste effectively while contributing to safeguarding the world’s natural resources and protecting the environment. We recycle flooring offcuts and waste from our production, transforming it into new, high quality products. In this way, we can collectively close the loop and shift to a circular economy.
By respecting resources, and following circular economy values, we are able to make sure that 70% of our raw materials don’t contribute to resource scarcity. Indeed, 134,000 tons of previously recycled material is now used as our raw material - contributing to our closed loop recycling goals.

DRIVING COLLABORATION The world’s mounting sustainability challenges require cooperation and partnership across industries and supply chains. We encourage our customers and all of our stakeholders to join us in working toward positive change. Importantly, we communicate our sustainability progress transparently, and provide clear information about our products and ambitions.
Arguably our proudest achievement, in this area, is our ReStart program. We’ve collected 102,000 tons of flooring since 2010 and much of that base material has now been turned into new products - replacing raw materials that would otherwise be needed.
SUSTAINABILITY WHERE IT COUNTS At Tarkett, we help create healthier spaces by making sustainable flooring that is good for people and good for the environment. We listen to our customers’ needs and collaborate with all our stakeholders to design products that deliver optimal performance, promote healthy living and respect natural resources.
