F. BALL CHOSEN FOR HIGH-LEVEL DUTCH

RESIDENTIAL BUILD Products from F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s System LVT range have been used to install floorcoverings as part of the stylish Overkamp Park residential development in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, consisting of three apartment blocks, each with 53 luxury apartments and two penthouses.

Subcontracted by Joker van der Wiel Interieur, flooring contractor C.Q. Vloeren Dennis Sliep, based in Vlaardingen, installed vinyl and linoleum floorcoverings in 40 apartments in one of the three towers.

F. Ball’s Stopgap 300 HD heavy-duty levelling compound was used to create a perfectly smooth base for floorcoverings. The product’s high compressive strength will ensure a long-lasting, professional flooring finish even when subjected to heavy daily usage, while its excellent self-levelling properties provide a perfect base for resilient floorcoverings.

Once the levelling compound had cured, a combination of luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) and linoleum sheet floorcoverings were installed. F. Ball’s Styccobond F58 PLUS fast-drying, fibre-reinforced, pressure sensitive adhesive was used to install wood-effect LVT in both straight planks and herringbone formations. Its fast- drying formulation enables luxury vinyl tiles and planks to be secured from just five minutes following application. Since

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY CONTINUES

TO RISE IN OCTOBER October PMI data indicated that the UK construction sector gained momentum, with total industry activity rising at the fastest pace since May.

Despite signalling a solid recovery in business activity from the downturn seen this summer, construction companies indicated that growth expectations for the year ahead remained very subdued. The degree of optimism fell sharply since September and was the lowest for almost two and a half years, reflecting falling volumes of new work and worries about the longer-term UK economic outlook.

its launch last year, it has become F. Ball’s best-selling product in the Dutch market.

Flooring contractors installed Forbo Marmoleum sheet in other areas using Styccobond F54. The adhesive has been specially designed to adhere linoleum floorcoverings and provides high initial grab to reduce sliding during installation. It is also non-flammable, solvent-free and protected against bio-degradation.

Cracks in the substrates were also repaired using F. Ball’s Stopgap Micro Rapid. The ultra-smooth, flexible, rapid- drying floor finishing compound can be applied to a seamless feathered edge to repair minor surface defects in a wide range of absorbent surfaces, including sand/cement and calcium sulphate screeds, and is ready to receive new floorcoverings from just 20 minutes after application. It is ideal for use where a flawlessly smooth surface is desired to optimise the final appearance of a flooring installation. Flooring contractors primed subfloors using Stopgap P131 general- purpose primer prior to the application of the levelling compound.

The headline seasonally adjusted S&P Global / CIPS UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) – which measures month-on-month changes in total industry activity – posted 53.2 in October, up from 52.3 in September and the highest reading since May. Moreover, the index continued to pick up from the 26-month low seen in July (48.9). Higher levels of business activity were attributed to a combination of new project starts and strong pipelines of unfinished work.

Tim Moore, economics director at S&P Global Market Intelligence, which compiles the survey, said: "Construction output has staged a modest recovery after the downturn seen through much

Commenting on the project, F. Ball technical support advisor for the Netherlands Kees-Jan van Eeren said: “Given the profile and specification of the project, flooring contractors weren’t going to compromise on subfloor preparation and steps to achieve optimum results. When you’re installing top-quality resilient floorcoverings, it’s worthwhile investing in advanced products that can help with this. F. Ball’s System LVT range comprises subfloor preparation products and adhesives which, used correctly and in combination, guarantee a flawless finish when installing LVTs.”

of this summer, with growth hitting a five- month high in October. Commercial work was the best-performing area of activity as delayed projects moved forward, while increased house building also provided a positive contribution to overall workloads.

"However, the forward-looking survey indicators highlight that growth will be harder to achieve in the coming months as rising borrowing costs, economic uncertainty and cost constraints all had a negative influence on order books in October. The reduction in total new work was the first since May 2020 and this fuelled increased concerns about longer term tender opportunities.”
