FLEXIBILTY AT EVERY STAGE

Interface discusses how contractors can keep up with the growing trend in creating flexible work spaces that can adapt with changing needs.

The demand for flexible office space is set to soar over the next five years according to recent research carried out by property firm Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL). Being able to adapt spaces to the needs of businesses and the volume of work they are dealing with presents a number of key challenges for flooring contractors.

These flexible spaces, which are often shared by a number of companies, require clear zones to demarcate different areas being used by different businesses and for varying functions. In order to create these, designers will often opt for different flooring textures, moving from carpet tile to hard flooring. Keeping to deadline is arguably the most important part of any project, running over time increases costs and decreases customer satisfaction, this is why finding a manufacturer which is able to offer a full product range is extremely important.

Interface is a manufacturer that is able to provide the full solution, offering products which are designed with ease of installation in mind. For example, LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and carpet tile are products which fit seamlessly together, meaning there’s no need for bulky transition strips. This helps contractors deliver a quality finish every time.

Being able to obtain all products from one source isn’t the only concern for contractors. With city skylines across the UK filled with cranes and construction sites, being able to complete installations on time and move on to the next project has never been more pressing. As well as providing a full and varied product range to help contractors keep to their schedule, Interface understands that contractors need quick access to products in order to make a project as efficient as possible. In order to make sure installers can get the products they need, when they need them, Interface offers the option of QuickShip. Contractors can filter through 500 colourways

which can be dispatched within 24 hours, creating ultimate flexibility when it comes to budget and deadline.

One of the greatest benefits of flexible spaces from the point of view of end-users is being able to increase and decrease areas based on the user’s needs. What might begin as a start-up occupying a corner of an office might rapidly grow into a successful business which needs more desks, collaborative working areas and break out zones for staff. It’s unlikely that a firm will want to immediately take on the risk and cost of moving offices, but by installing flooring which can be easily changed, the current office can be adapted to grow with the business.

Keeping up with changes in the office landscape calls for products which are fluid and interchangeable. Interface has developed solutions which completely remove the need for glue, eliminating any potential damage to the subfloor and making the movement of carpet or flooring easier. For example, TacTiles which can be used with both carpet tile and LVT, are a glue-free reliable way to install modular flooring. The backing essentially hugs the floor and the tiles are connected horizontally, creating a ‘floating floor’ that doesn’t shrink or expand. This type of installation means the flooring can be taken up and moved based on the needs of the office.

It’s clear that the trend for flexible office space is here to stay and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. This means contractors need their businesses to be adaptable and agile, and finding manufacturers who can support this approach is vital for their continued success.
