SOLUTIONS OVERVIEW
Have You Considered Valve Refurbishment?
Like any mechanical part, valves should be regularly serviced to maintain optimum performance and productivity. When you’re interested in optimising your equipment’s performance but you don’t think the time is quite right to buy brand-new, perhaps refurbishing your valves is an option to consider.
Frank Milloy, Spirax Sarco’s Field Service Delivery Manager explains how valve refurbishment may be the way to go.
Why refurb your valves? There are obvious cost benefits associated with refurbishment, but why else should valve refurbishment be taken into consideration?
• Certify your process – your plant will be fully compliant and you will receive an up-to-date audit trail with valve condition records as our specialists are obliged to follow certified processes of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and American Petroleum Institution (ASI).
• Optimise your system – Properly used and maintained, valves can improve process efficiency and lower costs. So by refurbishing valves on a regular basis, you can be sure they’ll be kept in good condition. It also means the chances of system downtime are reduced.
• Comply with legislation – as part of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000, your plant must comply with a number of rules and regulations to ensure safe operation. Safety checks are included as part of a required maintenance programme which is key to ensuring faults in the safety critical parts of your system are not left undetected.
• Best practice – Managers have a duty to manage the risks associated with the site and this may well fall within your remit. Poor maintenance can cause a major effect on production, plant and people. So by following safety guidelines and conducting best practice, risks can be managed appropriately.
• Single supplier for the job – most types of valves can be refurbished by a single specialist offering a variety of services that can be complete on or off-site, taking the pressure off site managers.
What does refurbishment involve? Extending the life of existing valves from any manufacturer, our refurbishment service has a variety of aspects to improve the lifespan of your system. The full scope of valve refurbishment can vary from a strip down to a paint and dispatch with test certification, and can be completed on or off-site at a specialist unit, making the whole process much simpler.
With test certification on all valves, including pressure reducing, globe, parallel slide and other manual and safety valves, you can have the peace of mind that your steam system is working at its most efficient, whilst being compliant with regulations.
So, if you’re interested in optimising your equipment’s performance, lengthening the life of your valves and reducing the risk of failure but don’t think the time is right to buy brand- new, then perhaps you should think about refurbishment.
