where the two extremes meet, users can achieve 3MW – without sacrifi cing compactness or effi ciency.
“The Quantum range rewrites the rules of power density, especially when it comes to effi ciency at higher speeds,” says Wolfram Ulrich at Hägglunds. “By stretching the
limits so far beyond previous solutions, it introduces possibilities for greener operation, mobile applications and more.”
Within the new range are two
motors with shared DNA. Quantum is
the new name
for the CB, which has evolved so signifi cantly over time that it can no longer be considered the same motor. Tweaks in design and materials have increased its effi ciency and tripled its life expectancy, making it the ideal basis for a bold new step. That step is the Quantum Power, which merges a slim new connection block with this reliable foundation. Through additional ports and innovative internal design, the block enables far higher speeds while retaining full torque capacity at high effi ciency. Consequently, the Quantum Power can deliver high power with greater economy and sustainability than previous solutions.

G
lobal demand for raw materials is opening the door to a new market for Thordon Bearings,
with one of the world’s largest mining companies, Grupo México, using the Canadian company’s grease-free and self-lubricating bearings in a myriad of pump and machinery applications. Since 2014, when Thordon’s Mexico- based distributor TZ Industrias fi rst supplied and retrofi tted ThorPlas-Blue bearings to vertical turbine pumps operating at its copper and ore mines in Sonora and Nacozari, Grupo México has continued to specify Thordon solutions for other equipment, including heavy industrial vehicles. “The ThorPlas-Blue bearings
we retrofi tted in 2014 have lasted signifi cantly longer than the Ultra- High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMPE) pump bearings they replaced, leading to a number of new bearing orders,” says Arturo Selvas, director of TZ Industrias.
water and traces of sulphuric acid, which is more demanding than other applications that deal only with only water and sand, so they needed a tougher, longer-lasting, more robust solution. The original bearings were costly and diffi cult to replace, requiring regular greasing, but we found that the ThorPlas-Blue material possesses properties capable of withstanding the corrosive eff ects of sulphuric acid, and no grease requirements,” said Selvas. TZ Industrias’ initial scope of supply
was for approximately 2m of ThorPlas- Blue bearings machined to fi t pump bearings with outside diameters of 90mm and 50mm. A total of 54 pumps operating at the Buena Vista del Cobre and Operadora De Minas De Nacozari mines were replaced, with TZ Industrias expected to retrofi t a further 189 pumps in the coming months. Given the performance of the ThorPlas-Blue bearings in vertical

pumps, Grupo México also specifi ed the material for retrofi tting the grab/ bowl bearings of two diff erent Komatsu front end loaders.
