SHOW PREVIEW
JEC World Southern Manufacturing & Electronics
January 2024 After years of hype, the added
value that additive manufacturing (AM) adoption can bring to designers, manufacturers and supply chains has become clear. AM technologies are continuing to fi nd new applications and end-users across a myriad of industries, from automotive to aerospace, from renewable energy to healthcare. With the latest analysis from IDTechEx predicting new hardware and material sales will lead the AM industry to a $41 billion market size in 2033, it’s obvious that 3D printing has an important role to play in the design and manufacturing of more effi cient and sustainable industrial parts in the coming years. In this issue, we bring you the latest
product innovations and technology developments in AM software, hardware and materials from the halls of Formnext, Europe’s largest 3D printing trade show (pages 10-15). Throughout the show, it was clear the higher level of maturity, increasing integration into production lines, advancing automation and new production technologies and materials are playing a major role in driving the adoption of AM forward. In our extensive round-up, we highlight
some of the key product and technology developments announced by major players in the sector during the show. Meanwhile on page 16, you can learn how artifi cial intelligence (AI) and machine learning can aid your AM decision making. Aside from AM, this issue highlights new innovations in materials and coatings (pages 28-35), from addressing the challenges of corrosion and adhesion underwater to new adhesives for electric vehicles and nature-inspired refl ective fi lms for cooling cars. You can also learn how composites are contributing to sustainability eff orts across industries worldwide (page 36) and how shapeshifting composite structures could hold the key to more sustainable fl ight (page 38). As always, we round off the issue with
previews of upcoming events relevant to design engineering. On the agenda over the next few months are two blockbuster events for the composites and manufacturing sectors: JEC World and Southern Manufacturing & Electronics.
