New high accuracy water inline ultrasonic fl ow meter completes range of meters for process cooling systems
AW-Lake Company have introduced a Water Inline (WIN) ultrasonic fl ow meter for highly accurate and reliable fl ow measurement of cooling water, condensing water, and water/glycol solutions. Designed for process cooling applications including industrial cooling circuits, the WIN Ultrasonic Flow Meter has no moving parts for long-term reliability and low maintenance costs. By incorporating two wetted ultrasonic transducers that face each other directly in the fl ow tube, the ultrasonic fl ow meter reduces wear associated with moving parts and maximises signal strength.
The WIN Ultrasonic Flow Meter offers very high accuracy (+1.0% of reading over 25:1 turndown, 100:1 total turndown) over a wide fl ow range with minimal pressure drop. An innovative fl ow tube design simplifi es installation in limited straight runs and ensures no obstruction in the fl ow path. Holding an IP67 (NEMA 6) rating, the WIN Ultrasonic Flow Meter operates safely when temporarily submerged in water.
An LCD display version comes standard with Modbus RTU communications, providing an output of fl ow rate, volume total, run hours, alarms, and diagnostics. The display is detachable for remote mount installation up to fi ve feet from the sensor. A built-in data logger enables easy data access via Modbus. Units without a display come standard with analogue and pulse outputs, 24V AC/DC power, one pulse, and one analogue output.
The WIN Ultrasonic Flow Meter completes the AW-Lake family of fl ow meters for the cooling circuits market that also includes their TRG Standard Turbine Flow Meter, which is ideal for monitoring solvents and other viscous fl uids, these meters offer high accuracy with a milli-second response time, along with high pressure and temperature capabilities. These units have moving parts and require some maintenance.
AW Lake also offer the FlowStat Paddle Wheel Flow Meter, a perfect solution for monitoring various fl uids in applications such as chillers/cooling circuits and HVAC, this meter offers a fast response time with easy maintenance. Economically priced, units use moving parts and require a full pipe.
AW Lake’s Variable Area Flow Meter is widely used for monitoring pump performance and oil or water fl ows through cooling systems, these meters offer an easy, low-cost setup and require little maintenance. Units provide standard accuracy and may not withstand caustic media. Units can be a visual indication only or with pulse or analogue outputs.

Plant engineers responsible for clean, safe drinking water in their communities and those engineers in business tasked with industrial wastewater treatment will fi nd that the S80-T80 Lead (Pb) Analyser and S80-T80 Copper (Cu) Analyser from Electro- Chemical Devices (ECD) helps them verify treated water quality.
The electronics industry has recognised for decades that water and soil contamination by lead and copper have been a problem in the manufacture of semiconductors, passive components and circuit boards. Electronics companies worldwide must adhere to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations per European Union (EU) Directive 2002/95/EC. In addition, The US EPA issued in 1983 its Electrical and Electronic Components (E&EC) Effl uent Guidelines and Standards (40 CFR Part 469) to address the issue.
To assist municipal and industrial process and plant engineers,
ECD has developed a modular family of ion selective Pb and Cu analysers. A wide array of ECD water quality sensors are also available for other municipal water needs, including ammonium, calcium, chlorine, chromium VI, fl uoride, nitrate, nitrite, phosphates and sulphur. Industrial sensors and systems are available for bromide, cadmium, cyanide, manganese, nickel, potassium, silver and more.
When the intelligent S80 Pb ion selective sensor is connected to the versatile T80 Transmitter, the sensor’s information is uploaded to the analyser. It then confi gures the displays and outputs of the transmitter to the values appropriate to the Pb sensor’s measurement parameters. The S80-T80 Pb Analyser measures Pb over a range of 2.0 to 20,700 ppm at a pH level of 4-8 over a wide temperature range from 32 to 176°F (0 to 80°C) with a T90 response time of 10 seconds.
For copper monitoring, the Cu S80 Sensor is connected to the same, modular T80 Transmitter, with the ion-selective Cu sensor’s information uploaded to the analyser. It also then confi gures the displays and outputs of the transmitter to the values appropriate to the Cu sensor’s measurement parameters. The highly sensitive S80 Cu sensor operates over an exceptionally wide measurement range of 1.0 ppb to 6,300 pm at a pH level of 2-4 over a temperature range 32 to 176°F (0 to 80°C) with aT90 response time of 10 seconds.
The versatile design of the ion-selective S80 sensor family can be specifi ed for insertion, immersion or valve retractable service. Their rugged design is suitable for heavy-duty municipal and industrial applications and includes a choice of materials: 316 Stainless Steel, Titanium or Hastelloy. Maintenance is simple with a replaceable electronic cartridge, which can be performed by plant technicians without any special tools or training.
output. The line powered instruments have one 4-20 mA output per channel and a MODBUS RTU. Other options available include a three alarm relay package. The relays can be confi gured as alarm (set point) relays, timer activated relays or fault relays.
The universal T80 Transmitters are available as either single channel or dual channel instruments, allowing one analyser to measure both Pb and Cu. This transmitter is available in a 24 VDC or a 100/240 VAC power confi guration. All versions are available with the optional HART®

Solinst Canada Ltd. has released a mini version of the Model 800 Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer. Solinst Packers are ideal for temporarily isolating discrete zones in wells or boreholes for short-term groundwater monitoring and sampling applications.
The new Model 800M Mini Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer is 1 foot in length and is designed to fi t in 2” OD monitoring wells. The 800M is available in single or straddle packer setups. The 800M is inexpensive, simple and extremely portable – it is a “must-have” tool for any hydrogeologist.
The Model 800M Mini’s small, lightweight (1.2 lbs.) design means minimal weight is added when connecting to Solinst pumps for isolated low fl ow groundwater sampling applications. It is also ideal for isolating groundwater-sampling zones to reduce purge volumes. The 800M Packers are also useful when multiple, shorter well intervals need to be isolated, e.g. during aquifer testing. The 800M is particularly convenient for conducting falling head K tests.
Depending on your application, Packers are easily lowered down well using a drop pipe or a suspension cable, like the Solinst Model 103 Tag Line. Solinst Packers consist of a gland of black carbon reinforced rubber (BCR), which expands on a SCH 80 PVC body. The PVC body has an inner pipe for lowering monitoring instruments through. Model 800M Mini Packers are designed for pneumatic infl ation at pressures up to 30 psi, and are infl ated with a hand pump.
