Since partnering with Mainfreight last year the Dutch market has gone from strength to strength for Davies Turner, says head of European network at the UK forwarder, Danny Southby. Davies Turner signed

an exclusive cooperation agreement

with the Dutch

subsidiary of the Mainfreight Group in June 2020. Under the deal, daily overland trailer services were launched between Mainfreight’s hub in ’s-Heerenberg on the Dutch- German

border and Davies

Turner’s regional distribution hubs at Dartford and Coleshill, off ering groupage,

along with

collection and next day delivery system throughout both countries.

was a sign of its commitment to the short haul markets of the Netherlands, Belgium and France, where competition is fi erce and many freight forwarders no longer provide a full service network. Both companies are also members of the System Alliance Europe freight network. While Mainfreight Europe

is present in a wide range of markets, Davies Turner works with the company in Holland, Belgium and France. Davies Turner already had a

successful working relationship with New Zealand-owned Mainfreight in Belgium and France. Mainfreight has more than 110,000sq m (1.2 million

Europa Road makes Belgian signing

Europa Road has announced a new, groupage partnership in Belgium with Transuniverse Forwarding. Based in Wondelgem,

Belgium, Transuniverse has a turnover of €72m and operates 43 forwarding destinations across Europe. By off ering a structured, driver accompanied round trip model, several times per day as well as customs formalities

in both countries,

the partnership will allow Europa Road and Transuniverse to deliver a fast and reliable logistics service between Belgium and the UK. Europa at one time had its

own offi ce in Belgium, as in other parts of Europe but in the 1990s made a strategic change towards local partners in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. In the Netherlands Europa has partnered with BF Global in Tilburg since January 2017 and operates three groupage trailers per day between the two countries. Operations director at

Europa Worldwide Group, Dan Cook,

comments: parties, “For both this new partnership

will work to increase market share and allow us to deliver the best possible service for our customers. Belgium is a key market for Europa so developing our position further with a well- established European groupage operator is incredibly important to ensure increased effi ciencies

and capabilities for the future, especially at a time when we are still managing the ongoing implications of moving goods post Brexit.” Last year, Europa opened

its own customs operation in Belgium, to facilitate its new DDP (delivered duty paid) FLOW service. Belgium, along

with

France, is one of two locations where Europa has opened its own customs operation principally

to facilitate the

customs needs of CCC, but also to allow the DDP FLOW product to operate for trailers arriving via Belgium as well as France. The division now has a

growing team of six customs declarants, and its group head of customs is Belgian-based. Chairman of the board of

directors of Transuniverse, Frank Adins, comments: “The UK has been one of Transuniverse Forwarding’s core markets for many years. We work together with strong regional partners in Scotland, the North of England and the Midlands. In the south of the country and Greater London we previously collaborated with a number of local partners who were in charge of distribution in the region. “Now, Brexit has

fundamentally changed the situation: local players with modest depots and more limited capabilities can hardly handle the new customs requirements, if

It has now expanded its Belgian import service to include direct departures from both Gent and Genk – respectively, to the west and east of the Belgian capital, Brussels, giving comprehensive coverage across the country. Southby

adds: “For the Netherlands we have daily

services into both Dartford and to Birmingham, but with additional, regular arrivals into Manchester and Bristol. All hubs are customs bonded for on-site clearance upon arrival.” He says that services have

not been impacted too much by Covid. Brexit, as with all European markets created some bottlenecks at fi rst but these have largely resolved themselves.
