Lopez-led renewable energy leader Energy Development Corp. continues to fulfill its mission of forging a regenerative future for its Negrense stakeholders when it donated P5.6 million worth of additional support to Negros Oriental in the form of RT-PCR Detection & Extraction Test Kits and other consumables for the Province’s molecular laboratory at the Negros Oriental Pro v incia l Hospital.
Roel Degamo officially received the kits from Norreen Bautista, EDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility head. The turnover was witnessed by Dr. Liland Zoila Bustamante-Estacion, Provincial IATF ground commander and assistant provincial health officer and Rafael Duhaylungsod, EDC stakeholder relations officer.

wherein we are combating COVID-19. EDC is a partner in so many instances, and until today, they are helping us.” This donation was given in addition to the state-of- the-art RT-PCR machines and peripherals that EDC provided to help the Province put up its own molecular laboratory, crucial to managing the COVID-19 pandemic. With the two RT-PCR
machines that can process up to 200 swab tests per day, the laboratory is now able to expedite the processing of COVID-19 swab samples, with results released within the day, unlike before when it took up to 10 days for Negrenses to get them from the nearest testing centers in Cebu City. “We all need to keep working together, and giving whatever we can to manage the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases. This is crucial for the Province and for each one of us to thrive, and not just survive this economic and health crisis,” said Bautista.
EDC owns and operates the 222.5-megawatt Negros geothermal facility, the company’s second biggest site that has been providing uninterrupted supply of clean, renewable power to Negros Island, and to the rest of the Visayas region for almost 40 years. EDC generates over 40 percent of the Philippines’ renewable energy output, and serves about 10 percent of the country’s overall electricity demand with its installed capacity of almost 1,500 megawatts.
Its 1,181-magawatt portfolio accounts for 62 percent of the country’s geothermal capacity, making the Philippines as the world’s third largest geothermal power producer. (PR)

Motong, Candau-ay strengthen mandate for waste segregation
Barangays Motong and Candau-ay have passed respective ordinances that will enhance the mandate for households to segregate their solid wastes. The barangay ordinances are now under review by the Committee on Rules & Ordinances chaired by Councilor Michael Bandal for endorsement to the plenary of the City Council. City Environment & Natural Resources Officer Engr. Chilver Patrimonio reiterated to the barangay officials that waste segregation starts in the barangay- level, thus the need to

Among the officials present were Motong Brgy. Capt. Dionie Amores, Candau-ay Brgy. Capt. Gregorio Oira, Bajumpandan Brgy. Capt. Crispin Patrimonio, and their respective Kagawads. (PIO)
