We have mentioned many times before about the importance of keeping ditches maintained and the one we worked on here had been neglected for a number of years. Likelihood is, as the ditch was only accessible from a main road, the persons responsible for its maintenance was not over enthused to carry out the works. Subsequently the farmer who’s land it bordered had had enough and called us in to help.


The first thing to do was cut the hedge back so we could get to the ditch. This, as well as the


ditching, required “mobile traffic management” and a dam good hedge basher as the hedge had not been touched for several years either.


The works were an instant success, as not only was road visibility better, the water was chasing us section by section as it was cleared. It went even better once we had manged to clear the road culvert to.
