Free digital resource to support Black Lives Matter learning


A NEW learning resource to help people explore the issues around Black Lives Matters has been created by Exact Editions, spanning a range of different themes and areas. Articles selected from more than 50 different publications


have been included in the resource – which is being made freely available indefinitely. It means individuals, schools and universities will be able to access high quality content on sub- jects such as activisim, art, film and stage, history, literature, music and politics. Digital sales boost for book industry in lockdown


THE UK’s publishing industry has revealed the latest sales figures, and a shift to digital consumption has helped boost fiction sales by 13 per cent in the first six months of 2020. Mirroring the digital pivot that occurred


across the country once lockdown restric- tions were introduced, ebook and digital audiobooks saw a 23 per cent rise (home and


export) – up to £199m in the first half of the year. For UK only sales, that figure was up by 26 per cent to £125m – including a 50 per cent rise in children’s titles. Despite an increase in fiction sales, driven largely by digital formats there has been sig- nificant tail off in print copies – hitting tradi- tional bookshops, which were forced to close


for large periods. Many were able to shift to an online business, but figures show that overall sales were significantly down on the previous year. Consumer print titles saw an eight per cent drop to £453m, while non-fic- tion/reference sales fell by 13 per cent to £269m. Children’s print titles saw a smaller fall of just three per cent to £117m.
