LGBTQ+ Network set for new leadership team following first election
THE steering group that helped to get CILIP’s LGBTQ+ Network off the ground has handed over to a new committee. Over the last year the Steering Group has worked hard to launch and establish the network, which is open to all library, knowledge and information workers who are LGBTQ+, not just those who are CILIP members. Despite facing constraints due to the pandemic, the steering committee not only launched the new network, they were also able to hold a webinar, write articles about the network’s work and aims, and provide advice and support to organisations and individuals. The network also worked with the Brit-
ish Library to launch the LGBTQ+ Lives Online UK Web Archive project (https://
bit.ly/2IdgHbn), which provides an online space to document and record the role of the internet in LGBTQ+ lives. Earlier this year the network held its first election as it looked to create a committee to take on the day-to-day running of the network. The new committee members are Carl Banks, Binni Brynolf, Steven Dryden, Ash Green, Andy Lacey, Emily Macou- lay, Deborah Varenna (Chair), and Toni Velikova (secretary).

Save the date for Libraries Week 2021 celebrations
THE date has been set for Libraries Week 2021 – and any- one wanting to take part has been asked to save the date. Each year hundreds of libraries from across the UK and from all sectors take part in a week of events to celebrate the role, achievements and importance of libraries to their com- munities. Libraries Week 2021 will once again take place in autumn, running from 4 to 10 October. Libraries Week is an opportunity to highlight work that touches lives in many ways – from promoting inclusion and social mobility to sustainability and community cohe- sion. CILIP provides a platform for libraries to take part, along with resources for libraries to adapt for their own use. Libraries are encouraged to put their own mark on Libraries Week, giving them the chance to celebrate the services that make a difference to their users. Anyone wanting to stay up to date on the 2021 campaign can follow @LibrariesWeek on Twitter and join the conver- sation using #LibrariesWeek.
