Study Tour for Marinas21 T

he Marina Industries Association (MIA) has announced details of the Marinas21 Study Tour, which

will be held on Wednesday, 26 May, immediately following the Marinas21 Conference and International Trade Exhibition.

In a demonstration of industry

collaboration, three remarkable Gold Coast facilities will showcase the quality of the extensive boating facilities available to boaters in the region. Luke McCaul of Gold Coast City Marina, the Chair of the Study Tour Organising Committee, explained: “This is probably going to be the best study tour we have ever brought to our delegates. We have allowed more time than previously to gain deeper insights into each business. All facilities have worked together to create an innovative and educational program that will be sure to educate and motivate all who attend”. There will be a relatively early departure from the Marriott, following what is bound to be a big Club Marine Marina of the Year Awards Dinner. Delegates will be rewarded for their punctuality with a welcome breakfast at Sanctuary Cove Marina

Delegates gather for a previous tour of Sanctuary Cove Marina.

where they will inspect the A$8 million of developments that have taken place over the last year. These developments include three new piers, one dedicated to superyachts taking the capacity to over 300 vessels, many providing full overhead cover. In collaboration with the Intercontinental Resort and Country Club, Sanctuary Cove Marina integrates boating with lifestyle facilities, premier waterfront restaurants, retail and leisure facilities. All will be available to see along with an overview of Sanctuary Cove Marina’s new Admiral Program, a premium membership, which offers berth-holders access to a further elevated level of luxury and service. The next stop will be The Boat

Works. In 2019, this facility completed a major infrastructure expansion

doubling its footprint to 55 acres incorporating three boat hoists enabling it to handle boats up to 300 tonnes and 50 metres in length. Its comprehensive maintenance services include a large concentration of marine trades, wet and dry boat storage, extensive hardstanding, including covered options, and spotless, prestige work sheds up to 19 metres high. Delegates will receive a comprehensive tour of the world class facilities at this this innovative boatyard followed by morning tea at Garage 25 (Tony Longhurst’s private car museum). Finally, it will be on to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest one-stop shop for boats of all sizes, the multi-award winning Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard (GCCM). Supported

New dates for boot Düsseldorf

On 3 December, it was announced that boot Düsseldorf 2021 will be held from 17-25 April as the original dates from 23-31 January could not be used due to the ongoing high infection numbers across Europe. Messe Düsseldorf has postponed boot after close consultation with its partners and exhibitors, who endorse this decision and have opted in favour of the new dates. Wolfram Diener, Messe Düsseldorf’s

CEO, is convinced that the new dates for boot Düsseldorf send out a positive signal to the watersports industry: “At the present moment in time, we cannot reliably gauge whether a trade fair can be implemented in January, 2021. This is due to current infection rates, ongoing travel restrictions and existing legal provisions, which do not permit trade fairs to be held currently.

In consultation with our boot advisory board and the associations, we have selected the new dates in April with caution. Statements from numerous experts have led us to believe that it is highly probable the situation will calm down in almost all European countries by Spring, next year, on account of the measures currently in place. With Caravan Salon in September, 2020, we have already demonstrated that trade fairs can also be held successfully in Corona times while offering all parties involved the greatest possible protection”. Explaining the decision, Wolfram Diener stated: “The exhibitors can focus on the new dates now and continue their preparations. We will concentrate from now on to prepare the best possible and successful platform for the boating

and watersports business”. Petros Michelidakis, boot Project Director, added: “After many talks with exhibitors, associations and partners, we have chosen very carefully the new dates although we know that it is difficult to fulfill everybody´s wish. Moving boot to April will also accommodate the purchasing and booking behaviour of many watersports enthusiasts. Long-term organisation of holidays and leisure activities will not be possible in the coming months and we believe that boot Düsseldorf held in April will be welcomed for the planning of the boating and watersports activities for the rest of the year”. Representing the exhibition industry, Robert Marx, boot President, praised Messe Düsseldorf’s decision: “We very much support postponing boot to April. After the

extension to lockdown provisions, this is an important measure to ensure we can hold boot Düsseldorf as a commercial success. As President of this trade fair and representative of the German watersports industry, I welcome the move allowing us to now plan for these dates and that with boot 2021 we will be holding the first boot show in Europe for more than half a year”. boot Düsseldorf info@messe-duesseldorf.de www.boot.com
