Safety First: ITI Racks Up 2 Million Hours Incident-Free

ITI has reached a significant health and safety milestone, clocking up a massive 2 million hours of working time without a RIDDOR (reportable H&S incident).

Because ITI operates in some of the most stringent critical industries, from nuclear, through oil and gas, to defence, where standards are justifiably high and reporting of incidents is paramount for regulating safety and maintaining continued improvement, clients expect vigilance and this means having robust reporting mechanisms in place. The company has recently been accredited by BSI to ISO 45001:2018, the new standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, which emphasises the need to have robust processes in place to report any and all incidents. Therefore, the fact that ITI has not had a single

incident to report in over 2,000,000 man-hours is testament to how safe the company’s working practices are.

Graham Richmond, QA and Safety Manager at ITI, described the company’s working practices: We have robust incident reporting mechanisms in place, with follow up to root cause, providing a closed loop system for improvements. The clients we work with have certain expectations, and these measures help to reassure them that what we do ensures the safety and security of our people working on their projects, and therefore of their own assets and their own teams.

“This Health and Safety milestone is testament to the team’s drive, from the top down, and to our dedication to continually improving the existing safety culture. Our strong relationships with clients helps them to see that this safety record is not just a one

off, but one of many measures as to how well we are performing.”

A holistic culture of health, safety and wellbeing helps ITI’s own people to grow and thrive, which means that the company can better support its clients to achieve their ambitions. The company strives to regularly implement new initiatives, with recent examples including a Staff Partnership Forum, enhanced inductions with follow up training, trained Mental Health First Aiders, wellbeing initiatives regularly shared on internal communication platforms and access to third party health and wellbeing resources through company-funded programmes.

Graham added: “All of this and more besides creates a positive environment within ITI. It is just doing the right thing for our employees and looking after our colleagues.”
