MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
What Will 2021 Bring to the ASC industry? A
s excited as we are about leaving 2020 in our rearview mirror, we have most likely come to the realization that 2021 will hold its own set of challenges and opportunities. As we continue to deal with a global pandemic, ASCs need to be a part of the solution to meet the healthcare needs of patients. We can do this by continuing to provide excellence in outpatient surgical care. ASCs are well positioned to broaden the scope of our services, meet the needs of patients, continue to innovate to improve outcomes and provide best-in-class patient experiences. Here are a couple of items we must keep our eye on to ensure the safety and efficacy of our services and exceed our
patients’ expectations. ■
Ensure we have policies and procedures in place relating to COVID-19 that protect patients as well as staff and providers. We are all in this together. ■ Ensure we have appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies.

Re-evaluate implant and supply costs and utilization. Are there ways to improve margins to ensure financial stability for our organizations?
Evaluate new technologies and their impact on operations and costs. Can we implement new technologies that improve the patient care experience, reduce cost and strengthen our position in the healthcare marketplace?
Last, we have to take care of our team members. Without the amazing staff we have in our organizations none of this would be possible. Check in on people, ask how they are doing, listen intently when staff relate concerns and be prepared to take care of your people. 2021 will be full of opportunities, and I am excited about what the new year will bring to our industry. We are fortunate to be a part of the healthcare sys- tem in this country. The time and talent dedicated by so many individuals and corporate partners will ensure the ASC industry will continue to flourish in the years to come. Thank you for being a member of ASCA and please understand we are here to serve you, meet your needs and help you improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
