Estate ‘sink hole’ a collapsed drain
WORKERS at the site of the latest land collapse in Barming insist the sudden void is not a sink hole. It appeared on November 26 in a
residents’ parking area at Angelica Square, off Hermitage Lane, after starting as a crack. Workers from BT Environmental and Thanet Drainage commenced work on Friday and confirmed on Monday morning that it was not an- other sink hole but a collapsed drain. A resident whose home is closest to the hole said: “We were worried initially that it was a sink hole, but we have been reassured it is not.
“I’ve engaged a structural engi-
neer through my household insur- ance, to assess the situation and thankfully, he confirmed there is no threat to my property.” An engineer from BT Environmen-
tal said a geological survey would take place before several weeks of repairs are completed. At least three voids have opened up in recent months, prompting fears about the ground stability.
