Dear Residents:
A Message from
Our Executive Director
As 2020 comes to a close, I’d like to recognize two longtime employees who are retiring and the incredible legacies they are leaving behind: Jim Eby, Director of Capital Projects, and Tammi LaFleur, Accounts Payable and Payroll Coordinator. Jim and Tammi have been with the Park District just shy of 30 years. Jim has been responsible for the development of more than half of Batavia’s parks, the playground replacement program, and was a key player with the installation of a new liner for the Hall Quarry Beach. He indelibly left his thumbprint on the community spearheading the exterior renovations of Shannon Hall, redevelopment of the Eastside Community Center parking lot, and the complete overhaul of the Civic Center gymnasium. Tammi is a perfectionist who has been responsible for managing the payroll and accounts payables processes, making sure employees and the District’s vendors paid accurately and on time. While I could go on for days about Tammi’s professional accomplishments, it’s her personal attributes that make her so special. Tammi’s genuine care for others, ability to quickly build meaningful relationships, positivity, and empathetic heart that make her a bright light in this world. Congrats to Tammi and Jim, we will miss you both!
Although we are social distancing physically, as humans we need to stay connected emotionally. The Park District is committed to ensuring our community has the resources to maintain healthy lives, grow meaningful relationships, and continue to have extraordinary recreational experiences. We invite you to stay active and connected with us by visiting the Batavia Virtual Recreation Center at
bataviaparks.org. You can work out with fitness guru Kathy Freedlund in the comfort of your home! Are you a senior looking to meet and connect with others? Join our virtual Breakfast Club! The new center has links and recommendations to at-home activities, virtual museum visits, DIY crafts, and helpful guidelines and resources during this special time.
We invite you to frequent our parks daily. Parks and green spaces remain central to health and wellness—even if it means staying six feet apart from one another. Amidst this crisis, adults, children, and their pets will rely on parks more than ever to exercise, recreate, or simply breathe in the fresh air.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters with you. All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director
