Broward Commission Approves Port Everglades Growth Plan


Port Everglades recently received unanimous approval on its 20- Year Master/Vision Plan Update from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. The Port Everglades Master/Vision Plan, updated from 2014, is a comprehensive blueprint for 5, 10 and 20 years of development and capital improvements. “This 20-Year Master/Vision

Walmart recently announced plans to build a $220 million distribution center in Dorchester County, near Ridgeville, SC. The DC will benefit South Carolina Ports. “Walmart is the recognized supply chain

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) awarded $9.5 million in grants to eight marine highways projects across the Nation under the America’s Marine Highway Program. The funding supports the enhancement of navigable waterways and expands existing waterborne freight services in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, and American Samoa. The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT MPA) has again achieved recertification in the review of international standards for environmental management. The certification – known as ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System – recognizes the many environmental initiatives and programs in place at the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore’s state-owned public marine terminals.

Two new mobile harbor cranes have been delivered to the Port of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal as the Georgia Ports Authority expands its container-handling and berth capacity. The cranes will offload containers from vessels carrying up to 4,800 twenty-foot equivalent container units.

Port Freeport announced that Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a global shipping and logistic solutions provider, recently made its initial port call to Port Freeport. This service from Asia to the Gulf Coast will continue to bring automobiles on Wallenius Wilhelmsen ocean vessels into Freeport.


American Construction Company began maintenance dredging in the Coos Bay harbor from River Miles 12 to 15 in early July. Dredging was also conducted in this section of the Federal Navigation Channel throughout the summer of 2019. Prior to the dredging work that took place in 2019, this section of the channel had not been dredged since 2010.


Three cranes able to load the world’s largest container ships will soon be headed to the Port of Oakland. Shanghai-based manufacturer ZPMC said that construction of the ship-to-shore behemoths is nearing completion in China.


For the Montreal Port Authority, 2019 was a sixth consecutive record year in terms of tonnes of goods handled. The total volume of goods reached 40.6 million tonnes, up 4.3% from 2018. The container sector also set a new record with 15.1 million tonnes and 1.75 million TEUs. Market diversification continued: 27% of containerized trade was with Asia (an 8% increase), 5% with South America and 4% with Africa and Oceania. At 57%, Europe remained the main market. At the same time, trade with the US Midwest enjoyed an 11% upswing. The dry bulk sector posted a strong increase of 17% over last year with a total of 9.2 million tonnes, mainly due to the resumption of operations at the grain terminal following a labor stoppage in 2018.
