UCA NEWS

BRAVE NEW WORLD

Like many organisations, UCA staff have relocated to work from home, ensuring that we can continue to offer you our support during this ongoing situation. Please continue to use the usual email address and office phone number 028 9065 6576 to contact us.

Telegram uCA-NI has launched a new communication network – the uCA- NI Pharmacists Group on Telegram. If you are unfamiliar with Telegram, it is a messaging app similar to WhatsApp and is favoured by professional groups. The group has been set up to allow pharmacists from all sectors, who work in Northern Ireland, to facilitate peer-to-peer communication and support. We're delighted to say that pharmacists from every sector have joined the group. Our first topic of conversation was CPD submission (see page 18), which created quite a stir. The main aim of the group is to stimulate positive and supportive discussions on any topic that is important to you. If you would like more information on the Telegram group, contact uCA-NI Representation Pharmacist Mairead Conlon on mairead@uca.org.uk.

Community pharmacy ECHO sessions The Health & social Care Board (HsCB) rolled out a weekly series of information/training sessions on COVID-19 responses for community pharmacy, with 100-150 attending each week. The sessions allowed pharmacists to ask direct questions of the speakers and get swift replies with up-to-date information.

With a front-line community pharmacist providing feedback at the start of each session, the sessions proved to be a useful tool for Joe Brogan and his senior team to get a real sense of what is happening on the ground. HsCB and Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland (CPNI) also used eCHO to disseminate information on new and developing services as we come out of lockdown. This is becoming a tried and tested method of communication directly to the profession and we hope to see it continue. Well done HsCB!

Zoom Many of us now have to hold video meetings. If you would like some help with Zoom, contact us at the uCA office.

Deep cleaning If your business suffers an outbreak of COVID-19 amongst staff, or when the restrictions are eased, you may consider arranging for your premises to be thoroughly cleaned. uCA has information on options for deep cleaning that are quick and effective, with as little disruption as possible for your business. Contact uCA on 028 9065 6576 for more information.

Pre-reg assessment situation uCA-NI has been kept very busy over the past few months supporting pre- reg tutors and students, who have had to deal with a lot of uncertainty about their placement, exam, and for some, their visa extensions and right to stay in the uK to finish their studies.

The uCA-NI training programme was completed online and we have all learnt new skills, courtesy of COVID- 19. some tutors and students faced issues around the completion of placements and exam venue choices,

for which uCA-NI offered help and support. some issues were resolved, some were not.

Our best wishes go to each and every student as they prepare to take their registration exam.

Pre-reg training and development 2020-21 uCA-NI welcomed the introduction of NICPLD’s Pre-reg Development Programme (PRDP), which will provide an extensive suite of learning which will prepare each pre-registration trainee extremely well for the new Common Registration Assessment exam in June 2021.

We would encourage each tutor to familiarise yourself with this programme and ensure that it is incorporated into your training plan. The PRDP incorporates the mandatory training set by PsNI such as first aid training and will also have a range of training designed to prepare trainees for the exam. The programme is fully funded by DoH.

uCA-NI is currently assessing its Pre- reg Training Programme in light of the funded training offered through NICPLD and we are considering offering a complementary training programme focusing on areas not included in the NICPLD programme.
