Host a Facility Tour for National ASC Month Educate your legislator about ASCs and their place in the healthcare system BY ADAM PARKER

Every August, ASCA col- laborates with its mem- ber ASCs and helps them host facility tours for their members of Congress to

celebrate National ASC Month. Your surgery center could be the greatest advocacy tool in your effort to raise awareness about the ASC community with your elected officials. Members of Congress, typically, are not aware of the benefits and value that ASCs bring to the healthcare system. They rely on industry experts like you to learn more. Facility tours are an important way to make your voice heard on the issues that impact your surgery center. Touring an ASC gives legislators a

valuable opportunity to meet constituents while learning about the role that ASCs play in the delivery of healthcare in their communities. It also is a way to com- municate to your member of Congress how a proposed policy can positively or negatively impact your ability to provide care. This year, as the nation continues to come to terms with the long-term effects of COVID-19, a facility tour can be an excellent way to demonstrate the many steps your ASC has taken to keep your patients and employees safe. facility tours for its members through- out the process, helping to coordinate the messaging and content of initial invitations, supporting follow-up efforts and providing materials to guide tours. ASCA staff also will provide a tailored package of legislative briefings, state fact sheets, infographics and biographical infor- mation on the lawmaker visiting your facility to help shape the discussion with your lawmaker. Once your tour has concluded, ASCA staff will help with the crucial but easily overlooked step of following up with your law- maker. Beyond giving you the oppor-
