Moultrie County encompasses the North and East side of Lake Shelbyville.


Sullivan is home to a variety of unique restaurants, recreation and shopping opportunities. The “Little Theatre on the Square” is what Sullivan is know for and is the only Equity summer stock theatre in Central Illinois. Since opening in 1957, it has been host to many stars such as Mick- ey Rooney, Alan Alda, Ann Miller as well as countless others. The Little Theatre offers a variety of adult programs, as well asmatinees for chil- dren. Sullivan’s own Wyman Park and Tabor Park create hours of entertainment with tennis, horseshoes, baseball, hiking and fishing opportu- nities. The Civic Center is a public facility with an indoor pool, saunas, gym, racquetball courts and full weight circuit. There are also two golf courses. Sullivan is proud of its heritage and we look forward to welcoming you to our town. There are three bridges that cross the lake. There is also Sullivan beach and Sullivan Marina. Bethany sits on Route 121 and hosts an annual Corn Festival. Allenville, Gays, and Lovington are all in Moultrie County.


Amish Country: The towns of Arthur, Arcola, and Cadwell are in this unique area.


Arthur has the largest Amish settlement in Illinois. It has several bakeries and bulk food stores, Amish crafted custom oak furniture, quilts, and clothing,. You’ll also find flower, antique, and gift shops. Arthur hosts crafts and county fairs and is well known for its Cheese Festival and the Pumpkin Patch which is known for its cucurbits with over 300 varieties of pumpkin, squash, and gourds.


Arcola is just off I-57 and is the “broomcorn capital of the world” with the Broom Corn Festival happening the weekend after Labor Day. Arcola is also the birth- place of Johnny Gruelle, creator of Raggedy Ann & Andy. Each June, Raggedy enthusiasts gather to com- memorate the National Toy Hall of Fame characters. The Aikman Wildlife Adventure Park hosts many activi- ties through the year.


Cadwell is surrounded by Amish farms, where horse drawn buggies and farm implements are a common sight. It has an Oak Furniture company, a buggy shop, harness shop, feed mill, and antique shops.
