COUNTRY LIFE IN BC • OCTOBER 2019 Livestock still a main attraction at annual fair

Miss Rodeo Canada helps out at 4-H sale

The barns at the Interior Provincial Exhibition continue to be a main attraction for fair-goers as 4-H members and open show livestock exhibitors compete for ribbons, prize money and glory. This year, the fair celebrated its 120th anniversary and welcomed upwards of 150,000 people through its gates. This year’s livestock shows hosted 221 exhibitors, including 103 in the light horse division alone (it was a year for “horsin’ around,” after all) and 68 in the beef division. The highlight of the fair for 4-H members is the swine and sheep sale on Friday evening. This year, Miss Rodeo Canada Jaden Holle, joined auctioneer Don Raffan, below, from Valley Auction as members paraded their sale projects through the ring. The high-selling lamb (not pictured) was

raised by Kailyn Zabil and sold to the IPE for $1,300.00. The high-selling hogs were shown by Hanna Toporchak and Colton Davidson. They sold for $1,200.00 each to Shepherd’s Hardware and Askew’s Foods Ltd. respectively.
