It’s been a busy October and November for SELECT staff, who have again been working hard on behalf of Members. Here are some highlights – and some social news too


AT SELECT HQ* THE WALLED GARDEN


Specifier and Client Relations Manager Yvonne Wilson hosted an SEC Group Safety Forum at Te Walled Garden on 6 November, which included presentations from Training Plus and BAM Nuttall.


GLASGOW


Head of Technical Services Dave Forrester attended a two-day IET conference on diversity and inclusion in Glasgow on 7 and 8 November. Te event dealt with issues such as ageism, developing and retaining talent, family friendly workplaces and productivity.


GLASGOW THE WALLED GARDEN


Technical Adviser Darren Sweeney presented the second of our new one-day training courses in domestic ventilation on 7 November (above). Te courses are being run in partnership with global experts Glen Dimplex.

Refurbishment of Te Walled Garden continued in October and November, with new lights installed throughout the offices, staff computers upgraded and a new phone system introduced.

October saw Training Administrator Laurie Burns hand over boxes of toiletries, clothes and food donated by staff for homeless people. Te items – which ranged from toothbrushes, hats, gloves and socks to chocolates, playing cards and dog treats – will now be made up into Christmas boxes and handed out in Edinburgh on Christmas Eve.


PRESTWICK


Specifier and Client Relations Manager Yvonne Wilson spoke to delegates about topics including fire regulations and regulation of the industry at the South West Scotland Landlord Conference at Prestwick Academy, Ayrshire, on 2 November.


IRVINE


Technical Adviser Stuart McKelvie delivered a BS: 7671 training session at the Gailes Hotel, Irvine, Ayrshire, on 24 October.


Technical Adviser Mark McLaughlin delivered a talk on fire detection and fire alarm systems as he and Membership Representatives Diane Hales and Allan McCabe flew the flag for SELECT at the Meet the Buyer event at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on 13 November.


ST ANDREWS


Managing Director Alan Wilson represented SELECT and its Members at the annual EDA Scottish Function, held this year at the Old Course Hotel, St Andrews, on 8-11 October.
