Engineering & Design to begin for Port of Mobile Deepening

NEWS\\\

The Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) director and chief executive officer James K. Lyons and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District commander Colonel Sebastien Joly signed the

Mobile Harbor Pre-

Construction, Engineering and Design Agreement on October 2 at the Port Authority’s headquarters in downtown Mobile. The engineering and design phase establish the construction parameters to deepen and widen Alabama’s only deep-water seaport. “This agreement is a critical

step toward realizing the port’s ability to accommodate the larger ships serving the world’s major

trade lanes,

while improving vessel transit efficiencies and safety in our port,” said Lyons. Under the USACE Record of

Decision

issued in early September, the project will deepen the existing Bar, Bay and River Channels

Post-Panamax sized ships. The project complements prior investments totaling $450 million in marine and rail container intermodal facilities that include two Super Post- Panamax

and two Post-

Panamax ship to shore gantry cranes.

Carrier Transicold Showcases New Suite of Container

Refrigeration Digital Solutions

Carrier Transicold introduced a new suite of digital solutions during November’s Intermodal Europe that provide customers with wireless connectivity and real-time data analytics, designed to help make shipping perishables simple, transparent and reliable worldwide. Among those solutions are

the new TripLINK™ digital tool, which proactively and remotely accesses and manages data of both refrigeration machinery and cargo worldwide, providing actionable intelligence for fleet owners to significantly improve operational efficiency. Designed with customers in mind, this tool digitally connects customers to updates on their assets, including vital cargo health information. TripLINK software securely gathers and analyzes machine and data

cargo-health that it

wirelessly obtains from telematics hardware in the refrigerated container

and the micro controller. Tied to the TripLINK the

platform is TripWise™

software, which provides run time diagnostics to

refrigerated container units in transit with loaded cargo. These insights allow technicians

informed decisions for

to make fleet

operations based on key operational parameters and allow fleet owners to gain strategic intelligence on asset performance and location. Refrigerated container owners can save money and time as the result of lower terminal operating expenses, higher throughput, decreased idle time and eliminated or reduced Pre-Trip Inspections (PTIs). Another new addition is the

Container eCommerce portal, which began supporting

customers in Southeast Asia in mid-November, followed by a global rollout. Introduced in September

is the new Micro-Link® 5 controller, the industry’s first wireless connectivity enabled refrigerated container unit controller. It is also equipped with advanced diagnostics, which allows service technicians to save time and money by reducing container moves and the need to restack units to retrieve critical data or conduct troubleshooting. To work seamlessly with

the Micro-Link 5 controller and its wireless capabilities, the new DataLINE Connect™ mobile app makes it possible for customers to work directly with a refrigerated unit equipped to receive data via a smart phone or tablet. In addition to its advanced digital offerings, Carrier offers three core container refrigeration units - NaturaLINE®,

we’re positioned to respond quickly to further expansion,” says Lyons. Fueled by growth and Alabama shipper demand, the Port Authority requested the USACE initiate the necessary studies to widen and deepen the harbor. Governor Kay Ivey (R-AL) in March of this year signed into law the Rebuild Alabama Act, a bipartisan measure passed by the Alabama State Legislature, that allocates a portion of state fuel tax proceeds to support approximately $150 million in bonds to meet the federal cost- share

requirements harbor project.

PrimeLINE® and ThinLINE®, plus the PrimeLINE® unit with EDGE technology and the PrimeLINE ONE™ refrigerated container, two-line extensions, resulting in the largest refrigeration offering of any container equipment provider Carrier Transicold also has

developed the next-generation EverFRESH® system that makes premium performance more affordable than ever for fleets and container leasing companies. The new EverFRESH system

was unveiled for attendees at Intermodal Europe 2019. Using active controlled-

atmosphere technology, the EverFRESH system optimizes the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide within a refrigerated

container,

slowing respiration and the natural ripening of the commodity inside. Thus, it helps to preserve the quality of perishables beyond what refrigeration alone can do. As an active system, it generates high-purity nitrogen to more quickly and responsively displace oxygen, rather than relying on respiration alone to gradually reduce oxygen levels.

CDL Meals, the division of Fresh n’ Lean focusing on healthful meal options for professional truck and bus drivers, announced a partnership with American Association of Owner Operators (AAOO). CDL Meals offers a variety of delicious, organic chef-prepared meals that help drivers make healthy eating choices while on the road. Now, the company is pushing its mission further with an official partnership with AAOO, the number #1 leading association for independent truck drivers and operators.

dexFreight, providers of a blockchain-based logistics platform, has completed a pilot project to tokenize freight invoices and use them as collateral to provide invoice factoring at a much lower borrowing rate for trucking companies. The pilot proved that smart contracts and tokenized invoices can be used to create a faster and inexpensive alternative to traditional factoring.

Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. recently delivered three RTGs to CSX Intermodal Terminals (CSXIT) in the United States: two for Bedford Park, IL; the other for Worcester, MA. The RTGs deliver fuel savings of up to 40%.

PortsToronto Launches Phase 2 of Seabin Pilot Program in Toronto’s Inner Harbor

Following the success of this summer’s Seabin Pilot Program at Toronto’s Outer Harbor Marina, PortsToronto announced the launch of phase two of the project which includes the deployment of two additional Seabins in Toronto’s harbor. Secured to a

floating dock positioned in the northeast corner of the York Street Slip, the new Seabins are the first to be installed in a North American harbor and can collect litter ranging from larger plastics to microplastics, as small as 2 millimet er s ,

CarrierHQ, a fleet services provider, together with Aon plc announces the launch of Aon’s action-based monthly motor carrier insurance program, available exclusively through CarrierHQ’s online small fleet portal. Using data from the federally mandated electronic logging devices (ELD), Aon’s proprietary rating algorithm provides fleet owners with a driver’s score based on their actions behind the wheel; fleet owners will pay a variable insurance rate per truck based on that score.

Lanehub, a collaborative transportation network that enables shippers or carriers to match recurring freight lanes based on long- term direct partnerships, announced ongoing growth. The expansion is being driven in particular by private and dedicated fleets that are using the network to improve capacity utilization and reduce costs.

Illinois Railway, LLC (IR), operated by OmniTRAX, Inc., is one of the first short line railroads to implement fully functional positive train control (PTC) and enable state-of-the-art safety on its trains. The IR has installed PTC equipment on three locomotives to maintain inter- operability with similar technology used by BNSF and Metra trains operating on part of Metra’s busiest commuter territory between Aurora and Eola, IL.
