handle larger ships and attract new

direct services to enhance our global network offering for New England-based customers.” In FY2019, Conley Terminal set

a new record in cargo volumes for the fiſth consecutive year. The terminal handled 307,331 TEUs, an 8% increase over FY2018. To date, volumes are up 4% versus the same time period in 2018. This consistent growth can be attributed to a strong regional economy, the higher levels of productivity, and the increased demand from both importers

and exporters to utilize a virtually congestion-free terminal. Massport is investing

in waterside and landside infrastructure to keep Conley Terminal efficient and cost- effective. In 2017, Massport took the trucks off the neighborhood streets by building the Thomas J. Butler Freight Corridor, a $75 million dedicated roadway for container trucks entering and leaving Conley Terminal. This project is one of several that focus on creating efficient connections from Maritime facilities to the interstate highway system. Another major infrastructure

project initiated in the last several years is the Boston Harbor Dredging Project. The deepening of the main ship channels will be completed by the end of 2021. The $350 million project is a partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and Massport. The project

is approximately

64% complete, with over 7.4 million cubic yards removed to date.

In 2020, work on a new 50-

foot deep berth is expected to be completed. The $215 million modernization project includes

Virgin Atlantic, Delta Cargo open

technology-inspired export facility at London Heathrow

Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo have opened a state-of- the-art export facility at London Heathrow to future-proof the joint venture’s growth plans in the UK market. This is supported by new technologies that will enhance business continuity, as well as deliver significant improvements and transparency in the customer delivery experience. Opened

on schedule, the

new facility is the first phase of Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo’s expansion program to double cargo handling capacity at Heathrow to meet both airlines’ projected growth. Compared to Virgin Atlantic

Cargo and Delta Cargo’s former export operation at the airport, the new dnata City East facility offers: 18 customer delivery doors, double the amount previously; an expanded ETV (Elevated Transfer Vehicle), capable of full automation, with 245 pallet positions, up 20%, which enables

3 new ship-to-shore cranes. They will be 205 feet high and 160 feet high from the rail, with an outreach of 22 rows wide, capable of handling 12,000-14,000 TEU ships. These cranes are specially designed to avoid air draſt restrictions due to nearby Boston Logan International Airport. Terminal improvements totaling $103 million (including a new in-gate processing area and a new reefer rack system) are also taking place, and 90% of these projects are underway. Landside improvements were made possible with the help of a $42 million FASTLANE grant.

and secure working environment “These world-class expanded

facilities position us for success in this important market,” said Rafael

Figueroa, Delta Cargo’s

Managing Director – Operations and Customer Experience. “The technology enhancements and the transparency across the export operation, with increased temperature-controlled facilities, are designed to make it easier for our customers to work with both airlines.” The new facility also features

operation’s door management system and hand-held technology also provides instant freight status update messages for customers to confirm their cargo is being handled and flown as planned. Screens inside the facility, linked directly to the airlines’ operations control centers, enable flight monitoring and the management of service level agreements. “We now have an export

operation at our main U.K. hub which is designed around the current and future needs of our business, and which will further improve customer experience. By embracing new technology and ways of working, the building gives us the capacity to grow efficiently as we enter the next exciting phase of expansion for Virgin Atlantic,” said Tania Boyes, Director - Cargo Operations at Virgin Atlantic.

DB Schenker has introduced autonomous robots from the manufacturer Gideon Brothers in Leipzig. The robots allow productivity gains without the need to modify facilities. They are equipped with a Visual Perception-based Robot Autonomy System, which combines deep learning with stereoscopic cameras to create the next generation of robot vision. With this revolutionary AI-powered visual perception it is designed to navigate safely around employees and equipment and other moving machines. The robots are capable of moving a load 800 kg each and are using a hot-swappable battery system, allowing minimum downtime for recharging.

WiseTech Global has joined Cargo iQ to provide independent freight forwarders with access to industry best practices, through its operational platform, CargoWise One. CargoWise One users will be able to access Cargo iQ’s latest quality standards and processes from within the platform, once it is fully integrated, driving significant time savings and removing the need to facilitate Cargo iQ in a separate platform.

Menzies Aviation has selected Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) to provide the Cargo Management System (CMS) for its global network. The most recent version of HLT’s flagship CMS, Hermes 5 (H5), will be rolled out at Menzies cargo facilities from Q1 next year. Menzies Aviation operates cargo handling facilities in nearly 40 airports across six continents, handling over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo in 2018. H5 was launched last year and the CMS continues to be adopted by airports, airlines and ground handlers across the globe, including Hanoi Airport, RSA National, LuxairCARGO, and most recently CHS Trade in the Czech Republic.

CHAMP Forwarding Systems’ Logitude now offers messaging via the INTTRA Ocean Trade Platform for communicating with ocean shipping lines. Logitude’s INTTRA feature provides a fast path to building a shipping instruction to plan, book, and track shipments. This new feature within Logitude expands the functionalities for freight forwarders. It enables forwarders to work with shipping lines via the INTTRA network to handle the entire process of sending the instructions for the ocean shipments. It also sends status updates on each container, manages the communication with the shipping lines, and troubleshoots any issues related to the responses received from carriers. This means that through Logitude, freight forwarders can streamline their processes, enhance their user experience, and significantly increase their efficiency.

CEVA Logistics officially opened its new facility in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, doubling the size of its local operation. The new facility is strategically located close to the two cargo terminals of the country’s busiest airport Tan Son Nhat International, and a short drive from the container port of Cat Lai will enable CEVA Logistics to further develop its best-in-class services in Vietnam.

key markets of Europe with the US, Asia Pacific and India, paired with the superior performance of CSafe’s active container range, will provide LOT’s pharma customers with the ultimate air cargo solution for their temperature- sensitive supply chain. We certainly look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership with LOT Cargo as we continue to deliver on our promise of protecting what matters most to pharmaceutical companies, so that patients can receive what matters most to them.”
