Wide Design Flexibility-Yours Through Investment Castings


Investment casting offers great freedom in the de- sign of parts. Almost any shape, simple or complex, can be produced when sound casting procedures are followed.


Very complex designs can be cast into a single unit with various configurations streamlined together with fillets. Design principles are relatively simple and stress concentrations can be minimized. Load carrying ability of a well-designed investment cast- ing is more than double that achieved by other fabricating process or poor design.


Holes, slots, bevels, serrations, thin sections, knife edges, and other design configurations often can be cast more economically than formed by other methods.


Practically any alloy can be cast, and alloy proper- ties are utilized fully in investment casting. Close tolerances and good surface finishes in investment castings enable designs to be produced which require


a mm1mum of machining in critical areas. Often parts need no machining and may be used as cast.


With the investment casting process, you can obtain a tremendous advantage in economy and quality. One-piece investment casting designs often prove superior to similar components fabricated of several parts which are welded, riveted, brazed, or bolted together. Investment castings generally have better mechanical properties, are lower in cost, and are better looking. Product assembly costs are reduced when a single investment casting is used instead of several parts. Another important savings, often overlooked, is that time for part design, and for drawing and processsing blueprints is required for only one part - instead of the several designs, many blueprints, and directions for assembling needed for the various parts of an assembly.
