Chief Executive

How we —aim to help

Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, outlines what his team can help you with – while the uncertainty of what Brexit holds for businesses continues

S

STUART PATRICK IS AT THE coalface of Brexit. As Chief Executive of the 1,200-member Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, his organisation is instrumental in offering advice to businesses about how best to prepare for a no-deal outcome. Continuing uncertainty over

Brexit means planning for future trade arrangements with the EU is a challenge. However, along with his colleagues at the British Chambers of Commerce he has plenty of tools in his armoury to help. “I think that taken together, our

collective efforts on this are really powerful,” Stuart says. “For instance, we’ve been pulling together a Brexit checklist and a no-deal guidance dashboard, working with participants in our Policy Forums, along with continually pressing the UK government for more information.

only gradually. Our knowledge is still limited, but we are working to disseminate what we do know in helpful ways.” As the go-to body for customs

clearance certification and other documents, Glasgow Chamber has been ramping up its international trade team. This is to cater for the extra work expected to be generated by the new form completion requirements that will be required for

entering the single market. “We want to provide the best

service we can,” adds Stuart. “When we can assist with answering questions on the practicalities – the sort of tariffs you are likely to face, the documentation you will need – we will do so. “We have a fair picture now of what will be needed. However, there are still gaps, such as how we deal with countries that are not part of rollover free trade agreement (FTA)

When we can assist with answering questions on the practicalities, we will do so”
