Digital diabetes plan rolled out in England
People in England who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes will be offered digital support to prevent the condition from the NHS. The scheme – which is part of the
NHS Long Term Plan – is the digital version of the health service’s Diabetes Prevention Programme, and will offer several things people living with diabetes may find useful, including:
• Wearable tech – smart wristbands, for example – to monitor their physical activity
• Apps that offer access to health coaches and information
• The ability to set and monitor goals electronically
• Access to online support groups
According to the NHS, almost four million people in England have type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Programme, however, has already helped thousands of people living with diabetes to lose a combined 132,000 pounds in weight.
