ON TOP OF THE WORLD… FRANCE’S BEST SKI RESORTS

Chamonix. Val d’Isère. Serre Chevalier. France has top billing when it comes to ski resorts, boasting some of the best-known names in the world. And it’s hardly surprising when you look at the diverse terrain of the Alps and the Pyrénées. From near-vertical descents for hardened athletes to gentler pistes for families, it’s prime ski territory served up on a silver platter. But you don’t have to throw yourself down a mountain to enjoy your winter break. These resorts are also home to high-end shops, gourmet restaurants and bars, plenty of

opportunities to indulge in gooey raclette and the most beautiful snowscapes on your doorstep.

Hotel Les Lanchers, located in Les Praz,

Chamonix, the French Alps - is only 200m from the brand-new ski lift of la Flégère.

Our bar & restaurant caters for every taste and budget – with a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Halfway down, the stone Requin Hut – supposedly named after a nearby rock that resembles a shark’s fi n – provides shelter and hearty grub. Just be aware, this stop-off isn’t staffed until mid-January! But whenever you plan to go, Geneva airport is nearby and a good place to fl y to for access to the slopes. www.chamonix.com www.gva.ch

Courchevel

Part of Les 3 Vallées, the largest connected ski area in the world, Courchevel is one of France’s most thriving resorts. It’s highly beginner-friendly, with ‘ZEN’ zones marked out for the more Bambi-legged among us, while 19 green and 35 blue runs ease learners into the descent. For those in the intermediate camp, there are 34 red runs to tackle, and eight black for experts, all of which are groomed to perfection every night. As for getting
