“After reviewing agricultural showdates across the country,we have made the decision to hold the Kent County Show a week later than previously announced. It is important toworkwith other events to make sure we not only support the farming community in Kent, but nationwide too.”

LibDems choose local manWillis forbigpoll

THE Liberal Democrats have se- lected transport campaigner JamesWillis and former borough councillor as its candidate to fight the general election. He became the prospective par-

liamentary candidate for theMaid- stone and theWeald constituency after a vote on September 6. MrWillis (pictured right) iswell

known in Maidstone as an active campaigner on transport andenvi- ronmental issues. Aspokesman said: "He has been

a Kent candidate at two general elections and increased the Liberal Democrat vote both times." The seat is currently held by the

Conservatives but the presence of aBrexitParty candidate couldsplit the right-of-centre vote MrWillis said: "I am privileged

to be askedto represent theLiberal Democrats at the forthcoming gen- eral election for this great county town. “I’mdeterminedtowork hardto

protect the area fromthe effects of Boris Johnson’sGovernment.” The Green Party selected Stuart

Jeffery who said: “I am delighted to have been selected to run for Parliament in Maidstone and the Weald. “I have been thoroughly ap-

palled by the actions of the Con- servatives and Lib Dems over the past 9 years and their complete lack of interest in the environmen-

tal crisis that is unfolding around us.We have deadly air quality in Maidstone, ridiculous housing proposals on green spaces around the borough, a completely lax atti- tude towards the climate emer- gency and continued increase in inequalities that both Conserva- tives and Lib Dems have presided over, it is time for a fresh approach to tackle the most pressing issues of our time.”
