Back in March, BILD Lethbridge Region launched their first ever Home Reno Giveaway at the Home and Garden Expo, where after careful review of multiple submissions, Katie Taylor and her family were selected for the $20,000 home renovation prize. With designs completed, BILD members and the Taylor family are ready to build the kitchen they deserve.


The Taylor’s were selected out of hundreds of


applicants who were also in need of some renovations. The main criteria BILD Lethbridge was looking for was based around the person’s ability to do the renovations on their own, the impact it will have on their lives, and how far they could take the project within the budget. After lots of deliberation, BILD Lethbridge felt the Taylor’s were the most deserving of the prize renovation. “The biggest thing that I am looking forward


to is the opportunity to have our family together because it hasn’t been something we have been able to do because of the way the kitchen is designed,” says Taylor. “It has been really neat to

get to know some of the professionals from the different businesses and everybody has been easy to work with and really excited to help.” Taylor is a single mother of two boys, one


with cerebral palsy, and has been finding it difficult to bring the boys into the kitchen with her to spend some time cooking as they grow up. The new renovation will make the kitchen safe and accessible for everyone in the household to enjoy at one time. Throughout the design process, Taylor says she didn’t realize how many different local businesses were involved in the giveaway to help her and her boys with the renovation. “There is a lot of organizations and businesses


working on this, but it is amazing how many people are adding a little bit just to make the whole thing come together,” she says. 23 BILD Lethbridge members are


collaborating on this kitchen renovation to allow Katie and her boys to have a space where they can cook and spend time together. From the small details such as the door handles and bright paint to give the space a clean, welcoming feel, to the bigger features like the new French doors and cabinetry for more storage, local companies are being as creative and helpful to give the Taylor’s everything they need for more quality family time in a space they deserve.
