Integration of the first glo certification for facility mana
Facility management is one of the fastest growing professional and operational disciplines globally. Following the launch of the first global certification scheme for ISO 41001 Facility management – Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use last month, Karen Green, Head of Product Management and Development at BSI explores how organizations can integrate the international standard into their business to help improve resilience and increase business success. As organizations focus on delivering a
sustainable workplace that responds to evolving technologies and user needs, facility management (FM) has an important role to play. As the discipline continues to grow, organizations require a consistent FM approach across locations, sites and facilities – one that supports in-house delivery and provides procurement teams a benchmark to measure competency and maturity of FM providers in a global market. Research from the Global Facility Management Market Report1
reveals that the

facility management and integrated facility management market in Europe. In order to support this growth, it’s vital that organizations can apply an integrated and consistent approach to facility management, regardless of the site, location or country. Rising levels of competition, new
technologies, and more complex supply chains are just some of the challenges facing facility management professionals. Combined, these are influencing expectations from users, customers and stakeholder groups. In order to support organizations with this challenge, BSI has launched a new scheme, based on ISO 41001 Facility management. To achieve certification to the standard, organizations undergo an independent assessment including a rigorous on-site audit covering all the requirements of ISO 41001.
About ISO 41001
ISO 41001 launched in April 2018 and specifies the requirements for a facility management system. It’s non-sector specific and relevant to all organizations regardless of the type, size, nature and geographical
location. The standard helps raise the profile of facility management as a profession and recognizes the value it delivers as part of an organization’s strategic direction.
Global consistency
In response to the growing demand for scalable facility management services, FM providers have started to increase capability on a global scale. With this in mind, consistency is key and that’s where an international framework, such as ISO 41001 can help. It can provide the common principles,
concepts and terms including the assessment and measurement of performance to demonstrate competence of providers and give confidence to users.
Service and asset value
ISO 41001 provides a systematic approach, which requires organizations to continually review their service delivery and assets to ensure effective operations, minimize unnecessary cost and derive tangible value for business.
