Dereliction of Duty: Is Congress Choosing

Editorial Supremacy Over Democracy?

Congresswomen of color deserve to be protected without regard to how powerful and well connected the bully is who incites violence against them

If you think most democrats and

republicans in Congress do not love the suppremist position of the President of the United States, you may want to think again. Because of the equal powers of all branches of the federal government, Congress has the power to impeach a rogue president if they found his behavior to be inappropriate. The American public has already seen enough to support such an action. For more than two years Congress

has been claiming to be waiting for a smoking gun before they would move to do anything about the president's behavior. They have Senator Mark Warner(D-VA) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) leading an "investigation" that

is taking even longer than the investigation led by Robert Mueller.

Why are these probes taking so long? Let's take a look at Trumps

record and see how long it takes us to reach a conclusion: He has put the lives of congresswomen in jeopardy by constantly

inciting his already

unstable base of supporters. According to a recent report, a gun shop in North Carolina is using images on a billboard of the four congresswomen of color to sell guns. Trump constantly attacks reporters and media outlets making it less safe

than usual for reporters around the world. We all know what happened to Jamal Khashoggi, the reporter for the Washington Post. Let's just say what happened to him was unspeakable.

It appears that Trump called on

Russians to interfere with our elections during the presidential campaign in 2016 by asking

them, on national

television, to hack Hillary Clinton's emails. The President of the United States stood next to the President of Russia and essentially said, and I am paraphrasing: Although our intelligence community says Russia interfered with our election in 2016, I do not believe they did. Why would they?

The question every patriotic

American citizen should ask is "Why will Congress not act to protect our democracy?" Are the vast majority of members of Congress suppremists, as well. Actually, another reason could be because the people in Congress are afraid of losing their re-election campaigns. If either is the case, they are being derelict in their duties. Let's not kid ourselves, the reason Congress hasn't began impeachment proceedings may very well be because supremacy Trumps democracy, in their eyes.

Duane Ross, Director of Track and Field programs at NC A&T was given a contract extension through the 2022-23 season. Last season, under his leadership, the Aggies won championships in men's Indoor, Outdoor and Cross Country. The women also won Indoor and Outdoor track championships. Ross also coached the first Aggie in school history to win an individual NCAA Championship when Kayla white won the 200 meter indoors championship and was named women's indoor NCAA track athlete of the Year.

Turan Alston left the field with a big smile and a renewed sense of self confidence after participating in Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen's youth football camp at North Carolina A&T. "It was fun," Alston said. I learned a lot of stuff. It was hot out there. That was the only bad part."

More than 300 youth braved the Greensboro heat and humidity to participate in a camp that offered kids an opportunity to get one-on-one training from a professional football player who was invited to play in the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl.

"I learned how to play with more defense for my size and get my footwork right. I also learned more running routes and plays," Alston added. He is a junior running back on Louisburg High School's football team.

Cohen, who is known for his jovial personality, made sure the kids received as much enjoyment from the camp as they did technical skills. "We wanted to put them through stations," Cohen said; "After that, we did some competitive drills, one-on-one by age group. We like to have fun so at the end we had a dance battle."

Cohen, who set a record as the all-time leading rusher in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), intends to return to his alma mater, A&T, to host his football camp for the third time, next year.

This year there were more on-site registrations than online, causing some of the kids who wanted to attend to not be able to participate. Stay tuned to thehbcuadvocate. com to get information on how to register online for next year's camp.
