THOSE WERE THE DAYS

What The Doctor Ordered - Infectious ‘Laughter & Cosiness’ From Guys & Dolls

A feel-good evening, paying tribute to the stars and songs of the fabulous 50s and swinging 60s is coming to Leiston Film Theatre this October and will be headlined by the son of a singing legend. Lonnie Donegan Jnr will

sing the hits of his late father, who was the biggest selling British recording artist before the Beatles, popularising skiffle music in the 1950s and awarded with an MBE and an Ivor Novello Award. The show, Those Were The

Days, evokes memories of the post-war years, paying tribute to entertainers of the 1950s and 1960s and is produced by musical entertainer Andy Eastwood, who will also be bringing his immense musical talent to the stage as part of the show. "There are many tribute shows portraying particular bands, but with Those Were The Days we have created a broader celebration of the range of entertainment that the 50s and 60s offered”, said Andy, who has performed all over the

world, including fifteen years touring as part of the legendary Ken Dodd Show. Leiston Film Theatre manager, Wayne Burns, is looking forward to bringing this particular show to town. “This show celebrates a wonderfully diverse era for music and covers everything from traditional jazz to the Seekers and even Morecambe and Wise. Lonnie Donegan was such an inspirational catalyst in the music scene and to have his son on our stage really is the icing on the cake," he said. The show also stars singer Maggie O’Hara, comedy instrumentalist Pete Lindup, and live music from the David Carter Band. Those Were The Days appears

live at Leiston Film Theatre on Wednesday 16th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £16.95 and £15 for concessions and are now available from the box office on 01728 830549 or via the venue’s website at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk

UpShoot Theatre recent production of Moulin Rouge - Don't miss Guys and Dolls this September.

THIS Autumn’s musical from UpShoot Theatre, is considered to be the perfect romantic musical comedy, exuding the glamour and richness of Broadway, with wonderful brassy music by Frank Loesser. We meet a group of oddball characters trying to get by in Damon Runyon’s mythical 50’s New York. Small-time, but serious gamblers, play an eternal crap game arranged by Nathan Detroit (Simon Godfrey), in various venues across the city to keep the police off their scent. Nathan’s fiancé Adelaide (Katie-May Gooderham) is the lead singer in an off-Broadway club where she laments her 14 year engagement. A well- heeled gambler Sky Masterson (Michael Blackman) is only interested in finding the next big game with high stakes, wherever it might be, until he meets Sarah Brown (Beth Keyes-Holloway), the serious Sergeant of the local Mission

who’s trying to convert the lost souls of Broadway to God. So we’re all set-up for a wonderful array of musical and dance numbers around a catalogue of mistakes and near-misses that cannot and do not fail to entertain. With wonderful songs like ‘Luck Be a Lady’, ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’ that will warm the coldest hearts and lift the lowest spirits. Come and support UpShoot in helping the Fisher Theatre meet its target, while feeling all cosy and smiley with Guys & Dolls. September: Thursday 19th/Friday 20th/ Saturday 21st Thursday 26th/ Friday 27th/Saturday 28th all at 7.30pm. Special NY menu on offer during shows, see in theatre or online. Please book all meals with ticket purchases. All profits to ‘Future-Proofing’ the Fisher Theatre Fund. Tel: 01986 897130 www. fishertheatre.org
