Young forwarders go behind the scenes
Early access to exclusive BIFA-organised ‘behind the scenes’ tours is one of the benefits that Young Forwarder Network (YFN) participants get. In July, tours took place at the two largest container ports in the UK
Getting involved at Southampton A group of 13 young forwarders became enthusiastically involved in another great tour organised by DP World Southampton. On a lovely day, after an overview of the DP
World Group, and the history of Southampton and how it has evolved over the years, the participants got up close to the action. Some had a go at lashing a container and handling the large mooring rope, which is a lot easier on solid ground than in a port. Ian McCrindle, training coordinator, DP World Southampton, said: “It was great fun and a real pleasure to show a fine group of young forwarders around the port and give them an insight into how the port works.” One of the participants, Jack Sigsworth, commented: “This day was very useful, a big thanks to everyone who made it happen.” Another, Laura Granero, added: “Many thanks
to the BIFA YFN for organising this tour. It was a great experience.”

The Felixstowe tour group
Biggest tour for Felixstowe A week later, our largest group ever for a port tour got to appreciate the scale of the port of Felixstowe. Kyle Lawrence, chair of the South East YFN
region, commented: “It was a great day seeing the port of Felixstowe up close. This is another exciting opportunity provided by the YFN.” Katie-Louise Thompson-Friend, who has
recently joined the local organising committee, added: “It was a very informative day at Felixstowe. The YFN has provided a good opportunity to see the world of freight in action.” We will report on more YFN events in future editions of BIFAlink.
