Falcon brings rains, damage

Monsoon rains spawned by Tropical Storm Falcon disrupted the lives of Negrenses and caused some damage last week.

Classes were suspended in many towns and cities even before the rains fell Wednesday. City Hall Information Officer Dems Rey Demecillo announced Mayor Felipe Remollo’s decision to suspend classes shortly before 7 a.m. upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Empowering people through information

At least two students from the Camanjac National High School here were treated by emergency responders after they were hit by a falling banana plant while on their way to school before the suspension of classes was announced that morning. Classes were also suspended Canlaon City, Tanjay City, Siaton, La Libertad, and Ayungon, mostly in the grade school and high school levels. The Mabinay LGU, on the other hand, which suspended classes Tuesday, lifted the suspension Wednesday. Falling vegetation also caused a power interruption that lasted for as long as 12 hours in many parts of the province. Electric consumers vented their ire through social media after the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative could not immediately give information as to the cause of the power failure, as well as projections on when power would be back.
