MCT Electrical has been trading for 30 years and this year signals a landmark change in the business as Mick Taylor


transfers the


business over to his son Sam. Mick will still be involved in the shop and will be working on repairs and servicing with Sam now looking after the day to day running of the business as a whole.


Mick set up MCT Electrical in 1989 working from home. The next year he opened a shop in Leiston before moving the business to its current premises in Aldeburgh in 1998. 21 years later and the business is a fixture on the busy High Street.


Initially the business started out as purely electrical goods and servicing. But local hardware shops were closing, and demand began to grow so Mick added the hardware side of their

business to the shop and hasn’t looked back. Sam joined

business seven years ago so between himself and his father there is not a lot they haven’t come across when it comes to electrical repairs and maintenance.


This is very much an independent business, owned and run by local people with customer service at the heart of what they offer. Sam happily describes the service they offer as ‘old fashioned’, they will go out of their way to help their customers. This shop is an Aladdin’s Cave of electrical goods, domestic appliances, DIY and hardware goods. It would be impossible to stock everything that anyone could want, they would need a vast superstore to do so. However, if what you want is not in stock then the team at MCT will be able to get

However, the team also offer an installation service and the price you pay covers this – there is no additional charge for installation and removal of your old appliance. If Sam or Mick are not available or able to do this, they will use a local trader who they have worked with over the years and that they trust to do as good a job as they would. This is a family run business that is built on reputation and they pride themselves on offering nothing but the best service.


Joining Sam and Mick in the shop is Laura. Laura looks after the front of house and is always on hand to point you in the direction of what you are looking for. You will also find Tetley, the shop dog, on hand to provide a warm welcome with a wagging tail. It is great to see this well- established family business being passed on the to the next generation. Sam has no intention of fixing what isn’t broken (except for electrical goods!), he is proud of the business his father has built and will continue in the same vein – that is to offer good value and great service.
