Awards season is in full swing...
At the time of writing this column, we’re well and truly in full swing of awards season, and whether it’s movies or music, Oscars or the Grammys, it feels as though the world is talking about Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper!

As well as their hit song Shallow being popular on the big screen for the 2018 film A Star Is Born, which they both starred in, the track has also taken the charts by storm, reaching no. 3 on The Big Top 40, and being one of the most played songs on Heart in the last couple of months (and a personal favourite of ours!). Deservedly, the song is also nominated for multiple awards including an Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ and a Global Award for ‘Best Song’ – not forgetting the FOUR Grammy nominations for ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘ Best Pop Duo’ and ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’.
It got us thinking about other incredible movie soundtracks in the last couple of years…
The Bridget Jones trilogy always has huge, upbeat tracks to accompany the feel-good storyline, and the trilogy’s third film Bridget Jones’ Baby didn’t disappoint! The soundtrack featured a ton of artists that we love on Heart including Jess Glynne with her song Hold My Hand and Years & Years with two tracks – Meterorite and King.
If you’ve watched the film, you’ll know that not only did Ed Sheeran’s beautifully romantic track Thinking Out Loud feature on the soundtrack, but he also cameoed in the film! The hilarious scene featured Bridget and her work mate Miranda mistaking Ed for a random festival-goer, then spotting him headlining on the main stage later on!
Ellie Goulding seems to be a regular on movie soundtracks! As well as her the beautiful Still Falling For You being the final song of Bridget Jones’ Baby, she also appeared on the soundtrack for the 2018 film Fifty Shades Freed with Love Me Like You Do. If there’s one thing Ellie knows how to do, its write a romantic song for a big blockbuster!
Arguably one of the biggest movie soundtracks of this decade has to be The Greatest Showman. The powerful song This Is Me sung by the incredible Keala Settle has got to be the best of the lot! The soundtrack was recently ‘reimagined’ by artists including P!NK who sang A Million Dreams as well as James Arthur and Anne-Marie who beautifully collaborated on the track Rewrite The Stars.
Like A Star Is Born, The Greatest Showman is up for two Grammy Awards this year including the ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack’ and ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’ for This is Me. It’s going to be a tough call to choose between these two amazing soundtracks and songs – we’re just glad it’s not us making that decision!
