Beyond Dartmouth


Dittisham With a population of approximately 400, it is situated on the banks of the tidal River Dart, some 2 miles upstream of Dartmouth. The Greenway Ferry carries pedestrians across the river from Dittisham to Greenway Quay, adjacent to the Greenway Estate, the former home of the late crime writer Agatha Christie. Stoke Gabriel Situated in a creek of the river Dart, the village is an attractive and popular spot for visitors, both from afloat and ashore. There is a famous yew tree in the churchyard, inns, café, post office/stores and is famous for its mill pool and crab fishing from the dam at the head of the creek. Sharpham Vineyard The beautiful 550-acre estate perched on the banks of the River Dart contains 12,000 vines on its south-facing slopes and a herd of 80 Jersey cows grazing the grassland, whose milk is used for a range of handmade soſt cheeses. Visitors are invited to guided or non-guided tours of the vineyard (well-behaved dogs are welcome too!). The house, designed in 1770 by Sir Robert Taylor, overlooks the fields and wooded slopes above the Dart. Tel: 01803 732203
