SeaCast Converts Aluminum Die Casting to Stronger Stainless Steel Investment Cast Part
SeaCast took advantage of the almost
infinite alloy choices available in the in- vestment casting process and converted an aluminum die casting to a stronger stainless steel investment casting. The two-piece component is used in
a high-performance knee brace. It pro- vides lateral support and forward move- ment simulating the motion range of the human knee. The original aluminum die-cast parts
were not strong enough and bent during use. By the time this was discovered, the customer was in full production and could not take the time required to have invest- ment cast tooling produced. SeaCast used the die cast tooling and produced parts
Converting from die casting to investment casting allowed this knee brace to be cast in stronger stainless steel rather and aluminum.
to verify that the 304 stainless would perform under heavy use. The die cast tooling was then modified for the invest- ment casting process, with the customer experiencing a minimum of production
disruption. Typical of investment cast parts, this component includes cosmetic features, thin walls and sections, and con- toured surfaces.
