Aristo-Cast Conversion from Machining Meets Tight Time Frame for Customer
Aristo-Cast had been doing work for a very large com-
pany for the past year and was asked to help out a sister busi- ness with a complex detail on a diverter shower valve. Design features of the component include thin walls, un-
dercuts and hidden inside passages. The customer had tried without success to find a caster who could cast the part. The short-term solution had been to have the part machined from solid and assembled together. This was a rather expensive alternative, but there was no choice at this point if the cus- tomer was to meet its commitments. Using rapid prototyping technology, Aristo-Cast was
able to provide a sample casting and quote within a two- week time frame. The casting, which eliminated 99% of the machining
and all of the assembly, is currently undergoing a design revi- sion and Aristo-Cast is producing additional prototypes. An unmeasurable amount of time has been saved by not having to change the core design to a machined part instead of a casting.
