CMA CGM bids farewell to MacAndrews
CMA CGM is to unite its Containerships and MacAndrews short sea services as Containerships: from 1 April. It said the new strategy would increase its regional coverage and unlock synergy. Integration of local agency networks will also allow for the creation of a tailored intra-regional service, said the group. Acquired by the CMA CGM Group in 2018, Containerships
operates ships, trucks, trains
and barges in the Baltic, Russia, Northern Europe, North Africa and Turkey. MacAndrews, which joined
the CMA CGM Group in 2002 and which merged with OPDR in 2018, also offers rail, road and maritime transport services, specialising in intra-European routes - mainly connecting north and central Europe with the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands and Morocco.

The 2M shipping alliance – Maersk Line and MSC is to make permanent the temporary Liverpool call on its transpacific TA4 service introduced after last summer’s disruption in Felixstowe. Automotive industry freight firms Gefco and Berge have signed an agreement to create Spain’s leading finished-vehicle logistics provider. Berge Gefco will offer more than 3 million sq m of space for storing up to 120,000 vehicles, along with 700 trucks, 100 rail wagons and 40,000sq m of workshop space. The new company, owned 50-50 by the two partners, has received full regulatory approval to unite forces and became operational from 2 January.

Clyde Buntrock from Allport Cargo Services will oversee Global Forwarding while Adjuno chief executive Craig Sears-Black will take charge of the Technology segment. Heath Zarin will also become chief executive of the Logistics division, within which CM Downton, Jigsaw and NFT will operate.
Mark Hellmann has assumed the position of chief executive officer for the global partner network of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. He succeeds Michael Claus, who has successfully built and expanded the network over the past 30 years and will retire at the end of the year.
CEVA is to acquire 100% of CMA CGM Log, the shipping line’s freight management service for $105 million, subject to regulatory approvals and due diligence. It forms part of a new strategic partnership between the two companies in which CMA CGM will itself take a stake of up to a third in the logistics company. CMA CGM Log expects to generate revenues of US$ 630 million and has 1,200 employees in 32 countries plus cooperation agreements in 26 additional countries, particularly in India, China, Australia and the US. The integration of CMA CGM Log into CEVA Freight Management Business line is expected to significantly reinforce CEVA’s footprint in ocean freight management with 170,000 additional controlled TEUs.
Europa Road has signed a new partnership with Nuremberg transport and logistics firm, Amm Spedition. It brings Europa’s total number of daily routes between the UK and Germany to nine, along with existing routes to Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne, Rothlein, Hannover and Hamburg, plus a daily connection to the central CargoLine hub.
Teesside shipping and logistics company AV Dawson has secured a three year extension to support British Steel rolling operations at its Special Profiles facility in Skinningrove and at its Teesside Beam Mill in Lackenby. The Middlesbrough-based business has operated on-site logistics on the sites for over five years. The new deal, which has come on the back of significant safety investments, secures the jobs of over 70 employees and creates a further 12 new roles. The team carry out jobs including de-scaling machinery, on site logistics support, managing the recycling and waste solutions and deep cleaning during shut-downs.
FedEx has rebranded its FedEx Trade Networks forwarding arm as FedEx Logistics. It will continue to operate from its global headquarters in Memphis, offering services including air and ocean cargo, trade brokerage and facilitation, supply chain services and cross border e-commerce and fulfilment.
Gwynedd Shipping has recruited Matthew Farrall as its new general manager at its Deeside depot. A first class honours degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the University of Huddersfield, he has worked for Hellman Worldwide , Palletforce, Hoyer and Clipper Logistics. He will take charge of the growth and management of Gwynedd’s pallet network, warehousing and general haulage operations across the UK, reporting to managing director, Andrew Kinsella.

Founded by Eamon Quigley, Fresh Freight started by delivering flowers from Holland to the UK and has become one of the leading independent fresh produce hauliers in the North East.
